Political, Milblog News Roundup: 31 Oct 08

Due to the overload of news that I have, I am going to share all of them with you in one post. This will also help me empty my inbox from when my computer was down for 5 days. I hope you don't mind. ;)

Obama Speechwriter Switches to McCain; Ignored by MSM. This nice tidbit was sent to me by Rurik. I hope it is self-explanatory, and it is posted at NewsBusters. Thanks hon!

Grassroots Pressure Moves CNN to Apologize. Do you remember when Byron York said all those nasty about Sarah Palin? Well, Media Research Center put out an action alert, and it appears to have worked. CNN finally apologized for something right away! I guess they've learned their lesson about not responding to bloggers. Remember Eason? lol.

Real Hope. This is wonderful article written by Jack Lewis in which he encapsulates the true meaning of "HOPE".

Obama and the Law, written by Tom Sowell. Do you want more Ruth Bader Ginsburg's on the Supreme Court? Do you want judges that will start deciding for (against, actually) you what ONLY the LEGISLATURE has the power to instill because they are answerable to us? Read this great article.

Obama: Fundamental Change? Count on It, written by David Limbaugh. He shares the same concerns I have about our Liberties if Obama were to win.

Hat tip: National Black Republican Association.

Faustas blog - PUMA Betty Jean Kling. You can listen to this over at BlogTalkRadio if you have iTunes. If you do not, you can get it free. I did.

PUMA is a group of Democrats that are standing up for McCain/Palin. It is a good show.

Video game dispute underscores Muslim divide, written by David Rusin at Islamist Watch. Another post about the same topic can be found here by the IPT Blog. Another article by Patrick Poole titled, 'The Third Jihad will make Cultural Islamists Squirm, is well worth reading. As a matter of fact, it is mandatory! (Almost. I won't make you. Only because I can't. lol)

Hat tip: American Islamic Foundation for Democracy (M. Zuhdi Jasser).

A Little Ragin' Cajun To Dance To. Hat tip: Rurik and Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler.

Joe The Plumber's Family Decry Attacks! You can listen using that link. You may read about the abuse at The Sacramento Union, and Mark William's site is MarkTalk.com. Hat tip: Our Country Deserves Better PAC.

Obama Is A Rat Bastard Commie, by Grouchy Old Cripple. He's a hoot...except when you get under his skin! lol.

Would you like to help our Troops? Let me tell you about a site where I purchase some T-shirts and other things, but first let me introduce you to them. Here is a little bit about who they are and what they do:
Ranger Up launched on 8 September 2006. We make shirts for the military and the patriotic Americans who love the men and women of the Armed Forces. The guys that own this company either were or are still in the military.

What Ranger Up Stands For:

1. AMERICA. Nothing like her anywhere, anytime, in the history of the world.

2. Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, Coastguardsmen, Firemen, and Police Officers. Basically, the crazy SOBs that put their lives on the line every day for less pay than they deserve so that we Americans can sit in front of our plasma televisions and watch crappy reality TV shows, drive nice cars, eat great food, and generally not have to worry about anything of substance.

3. Veterans. From George Washington to the newest recruit and everyone in between – Thank You.

4. Patriots. We’re talking about the people that believe the Fourth of July is more than just an excuse to set off fireworks, that flying the American Flag all year long is a civic duty, that taking the time to send letters to our troops is an honor, and who realize that America wasn’t forged on the backs of journalists, politicians, or campus rallies, but rather through the suffering and discipline of steely-eyed men who refused to accept defeat.

5. Dogs. Never trust anyone that doesn’t like dogs. They’re loyal. They’d die for you, and all they want in return is some dried food, some petting, and the occasional piece of bacon.

6. Reversing the growing oppression of the proletariat in today’s society. We…uhhh…think this is a good idea.

7. Hot chicks. Honestly, aren’t they the reason we do anything?
That last one makes me chuckle, because they do not consider the country of France when they refer to French women. lol. They have a really cool shop which I buy many things from. I'll let you in on it.

Unapologetically American: Hoodie. $45 unless you use this coupon code: HOODIE for 20% off until November 1, 2008. The Unapologetically American Long Sleeve T is only $25! Really, go check out their store and give our guys a big thumbs up.

Now it's time to appeal to your good nature. I have loved working with the Vets For Freedom, and I hope you will too.
Dear Vets for Freedom PAC members:

Today, we launched seven radio ad buys in key congressional districts throughout the United States aimed at supporting pro-victory veterans—six Republicans and one Democrat—who are running for Congress.

These radio ads will be running through Election Day in half a dozen states, supporting some of the finest candidates, and fellow veterans, running for Congress.

CLICK HERE to listen to the radio ads.

And CLICK HERE TO DONATE to keep them on the air.
Ads will be running for the following endorsed candidates:
  • Jim Marshall (GA-8) -- Democratic Congressman Jim Marshall is a highly decorated Army veteran of Vietnam who is inducted in US Army Ranger Hall of Fame. Congressman Marshall is one of the few Democrats who stood behind General David Petraeus’ strategy in Iraq in 2007 and 2008, even when it was politically unpopular.
  • Allen West (FL-22) -- Colonel Allen West served with distinction in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom, earning a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals (one with Valor), and a Valorous Unit Award. Colonel West symbolizes today’s warrior class.
  • Tom Manion (PA-8) -- Tom Manion is a former Colonel who served with distinction for 30 years in the United States Marine Corps, was successful business executive, and is now Gold Star Parent whose son Travis was killed in Iraq. Tom and his family represent all that is great about America -- he is a true American patriot.
  • Charlie Summers (ME-1) -- Charlie served with distinction in the Pentagon as a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve in the uncertain days following 9/11. Duty called once again in May 2007 when he left Maine for Baghdad, serving nine months on Active Duty as a Lieutenant Commander.
  • Tom Rooney (FL-16) -- Tom served as an Army JAG for four years before teaching Constitutional and Criminal Law at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
  • Steve Stivers (OH-15) -- Steve is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army National Guard who was awarded the Bronze Star for actions in Iraq.
  • Chris Myers (NJ-3) -- Chris is a highly decorated Navy veteran of the first Gulf War, proudly serving as a communications officer, anti-air warfare officer, and operations officer on the USS Bunker Hill.

CLICK HERE TO DONATE and help us run even more ads for these candidtes.
VFFPAC will continue to champion the cause of victory in the Global War on Terror, a cause that too many of our elected leaders have abandoned. Over the coming 2 weeks, we will mobilize our volunteer force of VFFPAC members to support those who support victory on the battlefield. As part of this effort, VFFPAC has hired field staffers in Nevada, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia and Florida. Their sole mission -- help turn out the veteran vote to ensure support for pro--victory candidates. With your continued support we will continue to fight the good fight here on the home front, while our fellow troops continue to achieve success overseas. As long as American’s warriors are deployed in harm’s way, you can be sure that VFFPAC will fight for them here. Move Out and Draw Fire, Pete Hegseth Chairman, Vets for Freedom PAC.
Paid for and authorized by Vets for Freedom PAC 1200 Eton Court, NW, Suite 300 | Washington, DC 20007
I have another post from Vets For Freedom, and you will really like it. It has two new ads in it, and they are powerful. The first one is named Stop the Smears and the second one is I Was There, and the surge worked. Click here to sign our petition - Stop the Smears and Support our Troops. Yes indeed. If you can, please donate to LTC William Russell also. He is running against Murtha, and he was in Iraq. Next I have a very sad announcement. I received this news from JP of www.Milblogging.com. I would like to ask all of you for your prayers for the family and friends of blogger Army Specialist Stephen Fortunato. He was killed in action mid-October. He was a member of the 26th Infintry Regiment, and he had been on leave for 19 days before he killed by an IED upon his first back in Afghanistan. There is an article in the Boston Herald, and the Boston Globe printed one of his blog entries. His Mother offered it to them. God bless you all, and thank you for giving your all so I may remain free. Boy, I'll tell ya, I don't know if it makes me feel like the rest that I've written is useless or that I should do more in his honor. Wow. I really don't know. I believe this more than enough for now. After that last one, I think I should end with that. Please remember to pray. The more I write, the more news I have coming in. Will I ever get caught up? I guess that will be second post. Have a good night. May you walk with the LORD always, and when you cannot take another step, may He carry you the rest of the way until you can walk along side Him again. Cross-posted @ Rosemary's News and Ideas. Digg! "I acknowledge, in the ordinary course of government, that the exposition of the laws and Constitution devolves upon the judicial. But I beg to know upon what principle it can be contended that any one department draws from the Constitution greater powers than another in marking out the limits of the powers of the several departments."

Good question. Hopefully someday they'll answer it but not this day.

'BTW I'm Voting For McCain/Palin'

This post saddens me because I know this video is telling the truth in a way I am not allowed to speak. Why is that? Could it be because he's voting for McCain/Palin? No, many people are. Could it be because he is black? No, even though he does garnish street creds. He is a black Republican, one of those rare breeds of individuals who dares to dream, who can relay his message of freedom, life, liberty, and hope to his brothers and sisters in such an eloquent manner. Would you please take 9:46 minutes out of your busy day to listen to what he has to say?

If he were running for office in my district, I would vote for him. This is the second one of his videos I have posted, and they just keep getting better. Keep up the great work (Zo) MachoSauceProduction.

No Socialism, No Marxism, No Obamanism

America did not shed so much blood, treasure and tears only to bring Marxism to our own shores. I refuse to pay allegience to a Marxist, and I will do everything legally within my power to stop it. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. If you Republicans want to play nice to get along, get the hell out of my party or we'll start a true American Conservative Party.

If you do not believe that there is a candidate running for president who is a socialist if not a Marxist, take a very good listen to this.
Hat tip: NakedEmporerNews.

We have shed much blood. We have lost many young and brilliant and brave and scared young men. We have sacrificed too much of our sacred treasure to turn around and disgrace these men by inviting into our country that which they fought against. We shall not dishonor their memories. We shall not dishonor their missions. We shall not dishonor their victories. No way. No how. No Obama!

Please forgive my political anger. I cannot believe my beloved country would knowingly turn from a capitalist society to a communist society. I truly believe my American brothers and sisters would never do that.

It is the media I blame for their lack of reporting on one candidate and trying to destroy the character of another. It is disgraceful and UNAMERICAN. That's right. I said it. Come and try to sue me. TRUTH IS AN ABSOLUTE DEFENSE. In case all you fancy lawyers forgot that, too...

Common Man Loses Tip To Bum

A Christian friend of mine received this in his e-mail box, and I asked him if I could post this. It is a very common way to look at the difference in 'redistribution of wealth' and trusting the American people to make their own decisions about THEIR earned money, and I really like it. I think you will like it, too. Here goes:
********************************************
Yesterday on my way to lunch at Doe's, I passed one of the homeless guys in that area, with a sign that read "*Vote *Obama*, I need the money." *Once inside Doe's my waiter had on a "Obama 08" tee shirt.

When the bill came, I decided not to tip the waiter and explained to him while he had given me exceptional service, that his tee shirt made me feel he obviously believes in Senator Obama's plan to redistribute the wealth.

I told him I was going to redistribute his tip to someone that I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside.

He stood there in disbelief and angrily stormed away.

I went outside, gave the homeless guy $3 and told him to thank the waiter inside, as I had decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy looked at me in disbelief but seemed grateful.

As I got in my truck, I realized this rather unscientific redistribution experiment had left the homeless guy quite happy for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn.

Well, I guess this redistribution of wealth1 is going to take a while to catch on with those doing the work...
********************************************
This is exactly what I have been saying, but this is a much better description! Thanks GM. ;)

If McCain Won't Explain It, I Will

19,000 people who live in America are actually ‘rich’. Do you want to make a bet that they don’t know how to hide their wealth or income? Then what does Obama do? That is correct. He taxes YOU.

Just as a reminder...45% of the people DO NOT pay income taxes. This was helped by the Bush tax cuts that everyone is now saying he did not help the poor. Come again?

Eyeglass Store

Have you ever gone to an optometrist? Was he located in a mall type site? Well, keep walking. They may be good, but their selection of frames is not very good. I went to pick up my glasses, well, maybe I should start at the beginning.

When I went to the doctor, I needed some reading glasses. I used to wear glasses all the time, but I found that it was better not to use them. I can see, somewhat, and I don't need to be helpless when I cannot find my glasses. It's happened too many times.

So he tested my eye sight, and he found that my sight is 200/20. So what? So I'm almost blind. Whose business is that but mine? lol. Yes, he made me get glasses and reading glasses in the same set of glasses. NO FREAKIN' WAY.

In the first place, you don't train your eyes for glasses with two separate messages to the brain. Geez. In the second place, and this is my real bitch, the place where the frames are is lighted by 7 inch orange bulbs going all the way up one side and all the way down the other so closely that it triggered my Aphasia.
Aphasia: Aphasia is a language disorder that results from damage to portions of the brain that are responsible for language. For most people, these are parts of the left side (hemisphere) of the brain. Aphasia usually occurs suddenly, often as the result of a stroke or head injury, but it may also develop slowly, as in the case of a brain tumor. The disorder impairs both the expression and understanding of language as well as reading and writing. Aphasia may co-occur with speech disorders such as dysarthria or apraxia of speech, which also result from brain damage. [What is aphasia?]

One in a group of speech disorders in which there is a defect or loss of the power of expression by speech, writing, or signs, or a defect or loss of the power of comprehension of spoken or written language. See, for example, auditory aphasia.

Less severe forms of aphasia may be called dysphasia. Aphasia, literally, means no speech. From a- meaning lack of + the Greek phasis meaning speech. [Definition of Aphasia.]

See also: Alogia. [Hat tip: MedicineNet.com.]
I had my first two strokes when I was 22 years old. I gave this background so you can understand that this, combined with my epilepsy (flashing lights trigger an attack), caused a big problem for me. It is insane for any kind of doctor to have any kind lighting that would induce aphasia or worse, an epileptic seizure.

I did not have a seizure, but I did get the aphasia. Half of my body on the right side gave way, I lost my ability to talk, and they knew not of what was happening even though I had already explained my objections to their lighting and why. Oh well, my problem right? Well as it turned out, it worked for the good as all things do with God.

They glasses they made for me did not fit. They were too small. Which pair did they make? The ones I holding at the time of my attack! Good going, guys. Stupid.

I was allowed to show my disagreement with the doctor (who was not there) by talking to the another doctor. He allowed me to get a pair of reading glasses and a pair of seeing glasses! Woohoo!

The only bad thing about it is that I have to go back there. It is very difficult for me to get out of my house for some other reason I am not willing to share at this time. I will state that I am home bound. It is very difficult to walk, so that's part of it. Would anyone like to come over here everyday and help me go for a short walk everyday so I can get back into the practice? No? Didn't think so. You guys are busy, and I understand this. Besides, I wouldn't give out my address anyway. LOL. Hey, it's nothing personal, but I don't trust people I do not know. I DO NOT KNOW ANYONE ON THE INTERNET. Yes, I may have talked with for you for years, but do I really know you? See?

Excuse me, there is one person, Bos'un. We go way back, and I know he is quite the busy bee! Also, I would trust any of the men I supported during their time overseas. Aw, heck. I guess there's more than a few people I would trust. Angel, Debbie, Rurik, people from Eagles Up, Soldiers' Angels, writers at Blackfive, and many more. lol.

Well, now that I've gone all the way off the track, back to the glasses. I have to wait a couple months for these to be made by some prisoners in San Diego. Go figure. Then I have to make the trek back to the doctor. This is last time I'll be seeing him, though. Not because he is not a nice man, he is, but because it is just too difficult for me to get to his mall office. There's gotta be a better way...

May you walk with the LORD always, and when you cannot take another step, may He carry you the rest of the way until you can walk along side Him again.

Security Improvements Spur Resettlement, Reconstruction

by Donna Miles
Armed Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON (Oct. 22, 2008) – Security improvements throughout northwestern Baghdad have prompted reconstruction and residents’ returns to their homes, but the successes remain fragile in light of insurgent cells intent on disrupting progress, a commander in Multinational Division Baghdad told Pentagon reporters. Army Col. William Hickman, who commands the 101st Airborne Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team, said his soldiers and their Iraqi security partners have “helped bring about big progress” during 11 months in Iraq and set conditions for continued progress. [Could that be the way the Kurds are dessimating the Assyrian Christians? Could that mean the muslims who are trying to force conversions from Christianity to islam, and the death penalty for any muslim who converts to Christianity? WELL, COULD IT?]

Neighborhood leaders address the crowd during a resettlement ceremony in September. Improved security throughout Baghdad has spurred a return of former residents and a rise in reconstruction efforts there.Speaking from Camp Victory via videoconference, Hickman said reduced violence throughout Iraq is “especially visible in our area.” He cited an 83 percent decrease in attacks throughout the Multinational Division Baghdad area and a 92 percent drop in attacks in northwestern Baghdad since January 2007...All in all, security in the area is vastly improved, as a result of the great work of our soldiers and increasingly competent and capable partners, the Iraqi security forces,” he said.

Hickman noted ever-improving capability within the eight Iraqi army battalions and two Iraqi army brigades with whom his soldiers partner. Operating in the Kadhimiya, Mansour and Karkh security districts, these Iraqi forces are led by “highly competent Iraqi generals who consistently demonstrate their will to deliver security and facilitate reconstruction efforts in northwest Baghdad,” Hickman said.

The “Sons of Iraq” citizen security groups have played a key role in improving security, Hickman said, partnering with Iraqi army and police in their communities to create a more unified security effort and helping to create an environment that supports reconstruction efforts. “Our soldiers, in conjunction with our Iraqi security force partners, have set the conditions for increased positive growth here,” Hickman said. He noted that 1,700 reconstruction projects have been launched since the 2nd Brigade Combat Team arrived in November.

Hickman credited the embedded provincial reconstruction team with delivering capability and know-how to support reconstruction and reconciliation efforts. “With the EPRT, we are focused on extending the reach of the government, providing businesses access to financial capital, and to the development of public work stations” that employ local people to provide essential services, he said.

As reconstruction continues, 16,000 families have returned to the area, thanks to improved security and the Iraqi government’s support for resettlement, Hickman said.

Also, he said, 2,100 families have returned to the Hurriyah and Ghazalia neighborhoods since Sept. 1. “With our Iraqi partners, we are fully engaged and committed to the security of the Iraqi people and the reconstruction of northwest Baghdad,” Hickman said. “It has been a solid year. … We think we made a difference in Baghdad.”

I-BIZ Program Bolsters Iraqi Economy

by Pfc. Terence Ewings
4th BCT, 1st Cav. Div. Public Affairs

COB ADDER, Iraq (Oct. 22, 2008) – Partnering with Iraqi security forces to improve conditions and help protect local citizens means more than just securing the neighboring provinces to the Soldiers of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. Part of the combat team’s mission includes aiding the local citizens in improving their economic conditions as well.

Maj. Tom Osborn, the I-BIZ application manager from Little Rock, Ark., speaks with one of the local national businessmen that attended the Iraqi-Based Industrial Zone program on Contingency Operating Base Adder, Oct. 13, 2008. The I-BIZ program promotes small business development within the security of a military installation.Iraqi businessmen in Dhi Qar met with Soldiers from Contingency Operating Base Adder and the provincial reconstruction team at an Iraqi-based Industrial Zone program meeting, designed to promote small business development within the security of the base, Oct. 13, 2008. The program provides a means to directly impact the economy in the Dhi Qar province through employment opportunities, training and mentorship. “This program sets the local nationals here up for success” said Maj. Tom Osborn, the I-BIZ application manager from Little Rock, Ark.

Abdul Jabar Alhadi, a member of the PRT and a business participant in the program, believes this is the type of movement that will help the people in this area. “We need more encouragement like this for our people,” he said. “In order to improve upon our system we need to learn more about it. I am glad that this program is here to reach out and help protect and develop our economic status.”

During the workshop, local businessmen got a better understanding of the opportunities and services in which the base occupants may be interested. The Iraqis also completed applications for their respective businesses, and shared their views on what goods they would like to offer on base.

“One of our main priorities is to make sure that the businesses proposed benefit and facilitate our Soldiers here on the installation,” said Lt. Col. Mark Nelson, the deputy commander of the 4th BCT. Nelson emphasized that the brigade’s mission is securing and improving the conditions here for the people in southern Iraq. “Our Soldiers here are making a difference, and this is just another example of how we are doing it,” said Nelson.

Some of the long term goals for this project are to enable self-sustaining Iraqi owned companies, employ Iraqis in the Dhi Qar province and increase the working class in southern Iraq. Currently, the 4th BCT Soldiers are teaching the local businessmen critical business techniques and skills that will enable the Iraqis to become successful in their future business endeavors.

Biden: They'll Test Obama Within 6 Months

Both camps are scrambling. One is amiss trying to cover this foreign policy debate, the other is on the jump to illuminate this gaffe by Sen. Biden. The McCain/Palin camp knows that the media will not cover this as they would had Gov. Sarah Palin said the same thing.

Now let's just be clear. What Joe said was nothing new. Do you remember the plane crises with China when President GW Bush came into office? So we know that countries like to test the leather of the new president. This is not the point. The point? The media, or the lack of it.

There is someone who agrees with this last statement, and you will not believe who it is. Dan Rather!

What do think about that?! It's about time he told the truth about something, anything. Well, good on you, Dan.

Oh my goodness, there's more! The NY Post covered it. At least some people in NYC will be informed. Maybe.

Brought to you by Stop The ACLU.

And now for some humor. Go over to IowaHawk's post, "Biden: Obama Ready for Armageddon Showdown He Will Provoke. He has a rather humorous combination of all the things Biden has priorly stated and put them together to enhance what he actually said at the fundraiser. It is quite funny...if only it weren't so right on. At least he is trying to lighten the mood. Good job, IowaHawk.

Marines Lend Hand To Iraqi Farmers

by Cpl. Chris Mann
RCT-1 PAO

RAMADI, Iraq (October 21, 2008) – Marines with Civil Affairs Team 3, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 1, assessed a new irrigation system being built in an open expanse of farmland in the Sophia area of Ramadi, Iraq, Oct. 8, 2008. The new system is one of six being built to improve the quality of life for many local farmers and civilians living in Ramadi. Each system will enhance farmers’ ability to raise crops and animals, helping to boost the local economy.

1st Lt. David B. Gilliland, a 24-year-old Civil Affairs team leader with Team 3, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 1, works with an interpreter to speak with an Iraqi contractor about an irrigation canal being built in Sophia area of Ramadi, Iraq, Oct. 8. Gilliland, originally from Florence, Ky., and the team of Civil Affairs Marines are working with the Government of Iraq to ensure the local farming community has access to several irrigation canals being built.“The biggest benefit of irrigation is farmers have water available to grow crops and feed their animals and family,” said Staff Sgt. Ben J. Lund, a 34-year-old assistant team leader from North Lake, Wis., with Team 3. The systems also assist farmers in raising a surplus of crops and animals to sell on the local market, said Lund. Much of the soil in Iraq is not completely ideal for farming. Arid atmospheres, hot temperatures, little rainfall and sandy topsoil put a serious hamper on many simple farming operations.

Irrigation is a method of farming that has been used since the Mesopotamian era and helps produce fertile soil in what would be an otherwise barren landscape. Irrigation projects like this one help keep farmers in Ramadi in business. “This project is one of the smaller ones that we are working on, but the big overall picture will benefit many people living near the irrigation stations and substations,” said 1st Lt. David B. Gilliland, a 24-year-old civil affairs team leader from Florence, Ky., with Team 3.

The team met with an Iraqi contractor in charge of designing the irrigation canal and discussed details of the systems design. A pipe will be placed to carry water from the Euphrates River to the farmland. An electric pump pushes the water into separate canals dug in the farmland, distributing water to crops and their root systems planted in columns next to the canal. The pump will run off of a fuel-powered generator designed to provide electricity in an area where power gridlines aren’t available to the local populous. Sheiks and tribal leaders from the area will maintain the generator and provide the fuel used to run it.

“Once a scope of work has been established and a contract is signed, we monitor the project to completion,” said Lund. “Our job is to verify the work is being done per the contract and no shortcuts are being taken.” The irrigation project and several others were planned by provincial ministries that maintain water resources for the government of Iraq. Coalition forces simply help coordinate purchases and contracts and check on progress and the security of the neighboring areas.

The project is being paid for using Iraqi Commander’s Emergency Response Program funds rather than (U.S.) CERP funds. ICERP allows U.S. military commanders the ability to spend government of Iraq funds to provide urgent humanitarian relief and reconstruction requirements within their areas of operation.

“The really great thing about this project is that it is being paid for with Iraqi funds,” said Gilliland. Civil affairs Marines frequently work with provincial government organizations of Iraq, planning and executing future projects designed to restore balance to a once unstable region. Many Iraqi citizens who live in predominantly rural areas earn their living raising crops and animals. Farming often times provides them with some of their only means to earn money. What may only seem to be a simple water pump and an irrigation canal to many, will offer several citizens of Ramadi a better future. The project is scheduled for completion within the next several weeks.

Global War Continues In Silence

As everyone is busy worrying about the economy and the upcoming election, there has been another fatwa threatening Europe, journalists, tourists, and anyone else who dares enter the Arabian Peninsula who is not an Islamist. Haven't you heard this yet? And you probably never will.

At Counter Terrorism Blog, they remain busy trying to keep us alert and aware of the dangerous world in which we live. It is dangerous, and not one politician is referencing this to the population of the United States of America. Shameful as it is, the other side would call it fear-mongering. Well, let me tell you. It is worth being afraid! Especially when our politicians refuse to inform us.

Take for example this excerpt regarding the Danish cartoons and the publishers:
"[T]he Europeans have entered—as they have entered previously—into a Christian war with Islam and the Muslims. They have opened the doors of hell for themselves, and have opened wide the door to the killing and slaughter of their citizens… If they do not rid themselves of these cartoons, apologize for them, declare that they are no longer permitted, and punish those who insult the Prophet of the Muslims, may Allah bless him and grant him salvation, then they shall be a legitimate target. Furthermore, it will become the responsibility of every Muslim to slaughter them anywhere in the world, and to set upon them with heavy blows." [Continue reading.]
This was their second fatwa. The first came from an article written in their new official magazine named, 'Sada al-Malahim', and it is titled, 'Issue #1: Failed Yemeni Security Operation'. It was published in January of this year. The excerpt I used is titled, 'Issue #2: Danish Cartoon Controversy ("Illumination, by Abu Hurairah al Sanani"). It was published in March of this year.

The next item is titled, 'Issue #2: Threats to Those Entering the Arabian Peninsula ("Bearing No Responsibility")' is also rather disturbing. Do you remember when the journalists blamed our Troops for the deaths of their comrades? Well, they should read this next excerpt:
we disavow responsibility for any infidel who has entered the Arabian Peninsula, and his blood and money are open for the taking… Beware entering the Arabian Peninsula under any name or guise—be it as tourists, diplomats, scientific delegations, experts, or journalists. Otherwise, you shall be the primary target of the mujahideen. By Allah, the knife of Abu Musab [al-Zarqawi] is still dripping blood, and we are now holding it. [Continue reading.]
This was published in the March article also. All of these articles can be found at The NEFA Foundation. They find the articles, then they translate the Arabic into English. A very good resource to have.

It may be October now, but do you remember hearing anything about these threats or has the politics of destruction taken the place of true destruction? I do not remember these fatwas. That is why I am mentioning them now. I wonder, does the government have this data translated? How much data do they have that is not yet translated? This is from March! It is now October. Does it truly take that long to translate Arabic? If it does, we are in trouble no matter who is elected.

I find this troubling in another sense as well. Already we are seeing over 3000 mosques built in the USA with Saudi Arabian money. If I remember correctly, there were 15 of 19 Saudis that hit us on September 11, 2001. That is a very real concern. If someone would like to say this is profiling, good! It is. I would not look for an English or a Danish person from the MIDDLE EAST. Good Lord. Have people lost their minds or just their will to live?

These fatwas are still current. One thing we have learned from experience is that they never quit. It is a shame to see so many Americans quiting due to weariness of a war they never were involved in psychologically (or any other way except to protest it). Maybe this is the problem? Maybe they should all be involved. If they refuse to wear the uniform, they should contribute their time doing something necessary to fulfill the obligations of the Military. We could use the help.

In WWI and WWII, people went to the factories to help build the equipment we needed. Now we outsource even that. This is unacceptable! I say we tell the Sierra Club to go fishing! They are out of business. How can the whole world be at war and only the enemy knows this? UNACCEPTABLE.

Sorry, but I just feel so helpless. Writing about it, talking about it, shouting about it, calling about it. It is getting me nowhere, or so it feels. What can I do? First, I can vote for John McCain. Second, I can make my ideas known. As little access as I have, I can still try. It is better than not trying at all. Third, I can arm myself for when the war finally breaks out on our shores, and it will. Fourth, I can become involved in the political process.

Starting November 5, I'm thinking about running for Congress. My brother does not support me in this idea, because he does not think I can physically handle it. If I have to do this on my own, he's probably right. I don't think I will be alone though. How about the rest of you? Do you want to run for Congress? Should we all run for Congress? We're better than the bums they have in there now! Think about it. Please. Good day.

US, Iraqi Leaders Discuss Sadr City Rehab

by Jim Garamone
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Oct. 19, 2008 – Noting that increasing employment, rebuilding infrastructure and providing basic services are tactics in the war on terror, Coalition and Iraqi officials discussed the pace of civil-military rebuilding in Baghdad’s Sadr City district Sunday. Iraqi spokesman Tahseen al-Sheikhly said the government has been putting billions of dinars into reconstructing the Shiite section of the Iraqi capital.

Sadr City, once named Saddam City, holds about 3 million of Baghdad’s citizens. Virtually ignored under the former regime, the area has severe infrastructure problems and a very high unemployment rate. The city was the scene of heavy fighting in April 2004 and earlier this year. Now, the security situation in the area has improved, and Iraqi and coalition projects are being built.

Children watch in July as U.S. Army and Iraqi engineers conduct assessments in the Thawra 1 neighborhoods of Sadr City District. Coalition and Iraqi leaders are discussing the pace of civil-military reconstruction efforts in the area.“It is clear to the Iraqi citizens that there is a very big movement in the Iraqi services sector,” Sheikhly said through a translator during a news conference in Baghdad. “This movement has been targeted by the citizens directly.” The Iraqi people will see “touchable” results from projects under way or scheduled, Sheikhly said. The plans will address “the bad situations in the area and rescue the citizens from the gangs,” he added.

Reconstruction planning and execution has increased because the improved security is “fostering political and economic development, and all are encouraged by the growing return to normalcy,” coalition spokesman Army Brig. Gen. Dave Perkins said. In Sadr City, civil-military projects are important part of the work coalition forces do in partnership with the government of Iraq, the general said. Coalition forces have a civil-military budget of $56 million for the area.

“We have more than 200 ongoing projects that positively affect the residents in Sadr City,” he said. “The purpose of these projects is to improve everyday life in these neighborhoods.” Local citizens perform the work, and Iraqi contractors are bidding on contracts. A key part of reconstruction in Sadr City is a district advisory council that meets on a regular basis with members of the Iraqi government, Iraqi police officials, local community leaders and military officials from Multinational Division Baghdad to prioritize the projects.

The civil-military projects have pumped $12 million through the Iraqi Assistance Center, which includes micro-grants to local businessmen, which have helped to jump-start the local economy, Perkins said.

School rehabilitation is an important part of the effort. Illegal militias took over many of the schools during the fighting earlier this year. Even as the fighting was dying down in May, experts were in the neighborhoods seeing what needed to be done. More than 22 schools have been rehabilitated, and students are in classes. The Iraqi government is buying 10,000 computers for the schools in the area.

Economically, the Jamilah Market – the largest market in Baghdad – is a lynchpin for the city. “The market employs 30 percent of the citizens of Sadr City,” Perkins said. “This market area continues to improve daily because of the micro-loans provided through the assistance and reconstruction office located at the Joint Security Station Sadr City.” In addition, Iraq’s Electricity Ministry is installing generators that will provide the Jamilah neighborhood four megawatts of electricity.

The Iraqi government also is moving forward with projects, Sheikhly said. Billions of dinars are going to establish a housing community near Sadr City. The government spokesman said this should alleviate much of the overcrowding in the area. The government also has projects to rehabilitate the Sadr General Hospital, establish dental clinics and build a blood bank for the area. The local councils are getting money to pave the streets, build parks and establish sports clubs.

All told, the Iraqi government is providing 183 billion Iraqi dinars, about $156 million, to the effort.

“We have similar actions going on in Diyala, Ninevah and other provinces in Iraq,” Sheikhly said. Reconstruction was once limited to certain areas in Baghdad, but “now it is everywhere – major projects going on everywhere,” Sheikhly said. “We hope it will succeed and the right path and serve the citizens of Baghdad and Iraq in general.”

Children watch in July as U.S. Army and Iraqi engineers conduct assessments in the Thawra 1 neighborhoods of Sadr City District. Coalition and Iraqi leaders are discussing the pace of civil-military reconstruction efforts in the area.
