Founders' Daily Quote(s): 2/1-5/10

Monday, February 1, 2010.
"[N]either the wisest constitution nor the wisest laws will secure the liberty and happiness of a people whose manners are universally corrupt." --Samuel Adams, essay in The Public Advertiser, 1749

We shall find out this November 2, 2010, whether or not the people have had enough of this corruption from both sides of the aisle.

Tue. 2/2.
"The public cannot be too curious concerning the characters of public men." --Samuel Adams, letter to James Warren, 1775

Wed. 2/3.
"It is the manners and spirit of a people which preserve a republic in vigor. A degeneracy in these is a canker which soon eats to the heart of its laws and constitution." --Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia Query 19, 1781

You must mean the press and the teachers' unions. Oh dear me, but what can we do? Strip their licenses which are paid with federal TAXPAYER dollars? ;)

Thu. 2/4.
"Nothing is more certain than that a general profligacy and corruption of manners make a people ripe for destruction. A good form of government may hold the rotten materials together for some time, but beyond a certain pitch, even the best constitution will be ineffectual, and slavery must ensue." --John Witherspoon, The Dominion of Providence Over the Passions of Men, 1776

I have 3 books on this man, that is how great he is to me. You should listen to what he says, and maybe even buy a book or two.

Fri. 2/5.
"Your love of liberty -- your respect for the laws -- your habits of industry -- and your practice of the moral and religious obligations, are the strongest claims to national and individual happiness." --George Washington, letter to the residents of Boston, 1789

Why is it he knew these things way back then and we dismiss them? Every study done shows this to be true. So why is God not allowed into our conversations, thoughts, prayers, conduct, etc? Because people have always been selfish, and the Bible and the Torah teach otherwise! It is a very simple answer. It is so much harder to reverse course. But it can be done if we are willing.

Does this mean forcing people who do not believe into believing something they have no interest? Of course not! Answer me this. Is it wrong to teach not to lie, steal, commit adultry, murder, and/or covet? No. It is not. Take what is helpful to you, and allow others to take what is helpful to them. YOU are not the only person in the world. That is selfishness, and it is wrong. YOU make the rest of us live a country without religious liberty.

Our treat for this is an essay from Alexander named, "The Reagan Model for Restoration". Great job, Alex!

May you walk with the LORD always, and when you cannot take another step, may He carry you the rest of the way until you can walk along side Him again.
