Winter Soldiers II final(?) update

Jonn over at This Ain't Hell has some excellent links to articles covering this sham of an embarrassment. Rurik, unbeknownst to most, was able to mix in with the crowd and get some rather interesting tidbits about this gathering.

Jonn has three of Rurik's articles here:

Send in the Clones.
What I saw at the Circus Part I.
What I saw at the Circus Part II.
I encourage you to go over to both John's and Rurik's sites, and read them. They worked very hard so we did not have to. They also covered somethings which we should stay atop of so as not to allow this group of malcontents to destroy our Military again. Not on my watch! Never again.

Update: There are a few problems with this post which I am trying to correct. The first one being the title. It should be, Winter Soldier II, not Soldiers. Also, I am having difficulty connecting to the links for Rurik's articles. If anyone is able to successfully get to his site, please let me know. That way I will know it is just me. That would be a shame, but it would help me to know. Thanks.

Update 2: Jonn has returned my question as per the links, and they are working correctly. It seems that the problem is mine, so go ahead get over there! ;)

Bad Voodoo's War

Frontline is going to have this program which is made by some of our milbloggers/National Guardsmen who were (are) deployed over in Iraq, and this is a videotaping of their experiences. It should be very interesting, since the reporters will not be there. They are giving the camera equipment and everything to this California National Guard team to film the action themselves.

Below is just a preview. If you are interested in watching the program (and I see no reason why you wouldn't be if you're reading this site!), it will be playing on Frontline at 9pm EST on PBS. HOWEVER, check your local listings just to make sure. This will be Tuesday, April 1, 2008.

Two of our friends, JP from Milblogging and Toby Nunn will be videotaping their experiences. Please catch this show over on Frontline. It will probably be one of the very few we will have the oportunity to watch that is actually about our troops. Heh hem, I mean...a truthful one about them!

In June 2007, as the American military surge reached its peak, a band of National Guard infantrymen who call themselves "The Bad Voodoo Platoon" was deployed to Iraq. To capture a vivid, first-person account of the new realities of war in Iraq for FRONTLINE and ITVS, director Deborah Scranton (The War Tapes) created a "virtual embed" with the platoon, supplying cameras to the soldiers so they could record and tell the story of their war. The film intimately tracks the veteran soldiers of "Bad Voodoo" through the daily grind of their perilous mission, dodging deadly IEDs, grappling with the political complexities of dealing with Iraqi security forces, and battling their fatigue and their fears.

Watch a preview now at: pbs.org/frontline/badvoodoo. [This is the preview I have provided above, because theirs did not work for me.] Visit the PBS pressroom for press release and photography. www.pbs.org/pressroom. Online starting April 1.

Keep in mind, if you intend to respond to this e-mail, please write back to me at milblogging AT gmail COM com.

Bad Voodoo's War is a Clover & A Bee Films production for FRONTLINE and Independent Television Service (ITVS). The writer, producer and director is Deborah Scranton. FRONTLINE is produced by WGBH Boston and is broadcast nationwide on PBS. Funding for FRONTLINE is provided through the support of PBS viewers. Major funding for FRONTLINE is provided by The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Additional funding is provided by the Park Foundation. ITVS is funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a private corporation funded by the American people. FRONTLINE is closed-captioned for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers and described for people who are blind or visually impaired by the Media Access Group at WGBH. Rough times

There is so much going on right now that I really don't have time to write. It's truly driving me nuts! I've turned two evictions into two possible resolutions with the people involved being allowed to stay, other's taxes, social security giving my money to someone else since December!, cigarrette taxes, plumber, accounting, bills, and all of this with no money. Oy vey!

Just wanted to touch base, so I could feel some sense of sanity. Yeah, laugh now. Wait until it happens to you! lol. Everyone have a great weekend, and remain grateful for living in this, the greatest country ever, and under the watchful eye of an everloving and faithful LORD and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Anyone who does not like me mentioning Jesus Christ, there are millions of other sites. You may remain here and learn a thing or two (along with me), or you may choose to leave and visit someone else. There is NO WAY I am going to stop discussing my love and gratitude for my God, the One and Only true God. And you, my dear friend, cannot make me. Ya see, YOU ARE THE INFIDEL, not me! (LOL) Okay, maybe not an infidel, but an unbeliever at least.

I sure do pray for you, that your heart would be softened and opened up enough so that you may see and hear and know the Truth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. He can heal you right here and now. Maybe not in the way you have determined He should or the way that those who do not Him would understand, but He most definitely would if it were His will. You would also find true Peace, a Peace that this world does not comprehend, but you can attain it during even the most unpeaceful of times.

You need to accept the fact that God so loved the world that He gave His One and Only Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall never die but have eternal life. Just accept Jesus Christ as Lord, repent of your sins, accept God's love for you, and have a relationship with Him. There is no one on this world that cannot be saved. I know what I am saying, and I still know it. OBL will NOT ask for forgiveness, therefore he will not be granted it. What if he does? Then the angles in Heaven will rejoice...

Flight 93 Blogburst 3.28.2008

This is today's Flight 93 Blogburst, and I would very appreciate it if you would consider joining. This is our country, and we all should have a say as to what kind of memorial we would like to see in that field in Pennsylvania. After all, they were American men who gave their lives in a valiant attempt to save the lives of the people on that flight. Hey! You in Congress! You do realize this plane was headed for you, don't you? Hello? Yeah, really nice. Just as I thought. They have forgotten. Have you?

Please read the post Eric has provided for us
:

A petition to stop the crescent memorial is now being circulated on the ground in western Pennsylvania . As a complement to this old fashioned canvassing effort, an electronic petition has also been created at ipetitions.com. Please circulate far and wide!

The petitions highlight four cases of apparent Islamic symbolism in the memorial design. Here is the text (electronic):

Call for Congressional investigation of Islamic symbolism in the Flight 93 memorial

Many features of the chosen Flight 93 Memorial design are intolerable:

1. THE GIANT CRESCENT . The centerpiece of the original “Crescent of Embrace” design was a giant red Islamic shaped crescent. Every particle of this original crescent design remains completely intact in the so-called redesign, which only added a few irrelevant trees. The giant crescent is still there.

2. IT POINTS TO MECCA . The giant crescent points to Mecca . A crescent that Muslims face into to face Mecca is called a "mihrab," and is the central feature around which every mosque is built. The Flight 93 Memorial is on track to become the world's largest mosque.

3. THE ISLAMIC SUNDIAL. The minaret-like Tower of Voices is a year-round accurate Islamic prayer-time sundial (one of many typical mosque features that are realized in the crescent design, all on the same epic scale as the half mile wide central crescent).

4. THE 44 BLOCKS. There are 44 glass blocks on the flight path, equaling the number of passengers, crew, AND terrorists.

Intentional or not, these features are entirely unacceptable. This travesty must stop and investigations must begin.

1) We the undersigned call on our state and federal legislators to undertake their own thorough and independent investigations of the Flight 93 Memorial design. The truth must come out.

2) We ask that the crescent design be scraped entirely and that it be replaced with a new design that is not tainted by Islamic or terrorist memorializing symbolism.

3) We demand a fitting and proper memorial that HONORS the brave men and women of Flight 93.
Please take a minute to electronically sign this petition. All signatures collected by the end of April will be printed out and delivered to the May 3rd public meeting of the Memorial Project, along with Xeroxes of the hand-signed petitions.

That is just the start. There will be another public meeting in August, where we hope to present a much larger pile of petitions, and all signatures will eventually be delivered to the Pennsylvania state legislature and to Congress. Keep sending until the crescent design is stopped!

In the short term, we have a number of supporters in the Pennsylvania legislature at this point who are working to gain backing for an investigation. A demonstration of public demand should help that effort.

The paper petition

In order to make the paper petition self-sufficient, there is a second page, to be printed on the back of the petition, that provides explanations and graphical documentation of the four highlighted cases of Islamic symbolism. The idea is to have a petition that can circulate virally. Anyone can print it out and have enough information right on the petition itself to know that the objections are legitimate. (Mailing instructions are also included.)

Here are the back-side explanations of the four intolerable features:

1. THE GIANT CRESCENT

The original Crescent of Embrace design was a giant Islamic shaped crescent with the crash site placed between the crescent tips, in the position of the star on an Islamic crescent and star flag:

Crescent and flag22%

The redesign was supposed to eliminate these Islamic symbol shapes, but as Congressman Tom Tancredo wrote to the Park Service in November 2007, these features remain completely intact in the so-called redesign, which only disguised the crescent with a few additional trees. Architect Paul Murdoch’s refusal to eliminate the Islamic symbol shapes suggests intent, but intentional or not, these symbol shapes are unacceptable. Congressman Tancredo is now calling for the crescent design to be scrapped in its entirety, and we join in that request.

2. IT POINTS TO MECCA

Several credible analysts have found that a person facing directly into the giant crescent (still present in the redesign) will be facing almost exactly at Mecca:

60%SizeMeccaOrientationGraphic

The green “qibla” circle in the graphic above is from the prayer-direction calculator at Islam.com. It shows the direction to Mecca from Somerset PA (ten miles from the crash site). The red arrow shows that a person standing between the crescent tips and facing into the center of the crescent will be facing almost exactly at Mecca .

This Mecca orientation claim must be authoritatively investigated and answered. If it is true that the crescent points to Mecca , and hence can serve as an Islamic prayer direction indicator (the central feature around which every mosque is built), then whether this construct was intentional or not, it indelibly taints the design.

3. THE ISLAMIC SUNDIAL

Anyone can see the overt similarity between a traditional Islamic sundial (left-hand image) and Tower of Voices part of the Flight 93 Memorial (right-hand image):

SundialComposite65%

When the shadow of the traditional sundial reaches the outer curved vertical in this photo, it will be time for Islamic afternoon prayers. Shadow calculations confirm that, on any day of the year, when the shadow of the 93 foot tall crescent shaped Tower of Voices reaches the inner arc of trees, it will also be time for Islamic afternoon prayers.

4. THE FORTY-FOUR BLOCKS

Tom Burnett Sr. does not want Tom Junior’s name inscribed on one of the 44 translucent blocks that are to be emplaced along the flight path. Forty-four is the number of passengers, crew, AND terrorists:

MemorialWallPlus44thBlock30%

The left side of this graphic shows the Memorial Wall, which follows the path of Flight 93 down to the point of impact. At eye level are 43 glass blocks. Forty are inscribed with the names of the 40 heroes. Three are inscribed with the 9/11 date.

Right-hand image: the 44th glass block sits at the end of the Entry Portal Walkway, where the flight path crosses the upper crescent tip. It marks the spot where, in architect Paul Murdoch’s description, the terrorists broke our humanitarian circle, turning it into a giant (Islamic shaped) crescent. This circle-breaking, crescent-creating feat is memorialized by the inscription: “A field of honor forever.”

The Park Service dismisses the suspicious block count on the grounds that the 44th glass block is much larger than the others. Mr. Burnett is not comforted by the magnificence of the 44th block, and neither are we. This design must be stopped, and investigations must be launched!

Other petition formats

The same four intolerable features are described in the annotated "Map of Betrayal" that was the subject of one of last month's blogbursts. Thus the map makes a perfectly serviceable back side for the petition, providing an alternative petition/flyer combination.

The information on the map is denser than the explanations above, but has its own intrigue, showing how the different terrorist memorializing parts fit together like an elaborate puzzle.

The petition being circulated on the ground now in Pennsylvania is still another variation. It has slightly different wording than the electronic petition, and slightly different explanations of the four points than presented above. All the different formats are interchangeable. They all highlight the same four objectionable features, and they will all be delivered together to state and federal legislators.

Until we get a Congressional investigation, the petition will be an ongoing tool for raising awareness and registering opposition. If you participate in any activist fora or email lists, please forward the text and links along. (The electronic and paper-petition links are collected together on this petition Page at CrescentOfBetrayal.com.)

Decision to Ban Homeschoolers is Vacated!

I have just learned from the Family Research Center that the 2nd District Court of Appeals has vacated the decision by the California Supremes to ban anyone and everyone who does not a California quality teachers certificate and/or belongs to one of the many unions we have out here, then your career as a teacher to your children was over! Good for you, 2nd Court of Appeals. However the fight is not yet over.

I have to wait an hour to reach the office, but the link they've provided is incorrect. Hey, things happen. It's just very good to know that the whole world hasn't gone looney!

The Court is still going to have another hearing about this issue, so please put on your prayer slippers. AND USE THEM! ;)

We must fight back for the sake of our children, our families, our communities, our states, and our sovereignty! Since when does the government own our children??? THEY MOST CERTAINLY DO NOT. They want to claim nutrality when it comes to religion? Okay, then explain to me why it's okay to have muslims praying in school, but Christian children are not even afforded the benefit of a moment of silence? Hmm?

Here is the link to the Family Research Center: FRC. Have a great day. I will try to get that link for us. ;)

Update: Here is the link to this news article.

Court of Appeal Grants Petition for Re-hearing.

On March 25, the California Court of Appeal granted a motion for rehearing in the In re Rachel L. case—the controversial decision which purported to ban all homeschooling in that state unless the parents held a teaching license qualifying them to teach in public schools.

The automatic effect of granting this motion is that the prior opinion is vacated and is no longer binding on any one, including the parties in the case.

The Court of Appeal has solicited a number of public school establishment organizations to submit amicus briefs including the California Superintendent of Public Instruction, California Department of Education, the Los Angeles Unified School District, and three California teacher unions. The court also granted permission to Sunland Christian School to file an amicus brief. The order also indicates that it will consider amicus applications from other groups.

Home School Legal Defense Association will seek permission to file such an amicus brief and will coordinate efforts with a number of organizations interesting in filing briefs to support the right of parents to homeschool their children in California.

Iraqi PM deserves credit, Pentagon spokesman says

by Jim Garamone
Armed Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON (March 26, 2008) — Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki should be commended for taking the initiative to go after extremists and criminals in Basra, Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell said Wednesday. The Iraqi government launched an operation last week to go after militias and criminal elements that do not follow the rule of law in the southern oil city. "Citizens down there have been living in a city of chaos and corruption for some time, and they and the prime minister clearly have had enough of it," Morrell said.

News reports out of Basra said there has been fighting between the Iraqi army and illegal militias and criminal elements. Maliki ordered five extra battalions to the city, bumping the force up to 15,000. "They are conducting aggressive military operations ... trying to rid the city of militias, thugs, smugglers that have been plaguing it for months now," Morrell said. "But I think it's very noteworthy that the prime minister, that the government, for that matter, is ready, willing and now able to take the fight to the extremists and to the criminals down there. They were not of this capacity some months ago."

The Iraqi security forces could not deploy a force like this in the past, Morrell said. "Part of the point of the surge was to give them the time (and) the training to increase their capability, and they are now displaying it," he said. The coalition has provided some air support in the operation, but no ground elements, the press secretary said. "This is an Iraqi-led operation, and what's more than that, it is a Shiia-dominated government going after Shiia extremists down there, and that is significant," he said.

The Iraqi military has made enough progress that the government now feels confident in going after Shiite extremists in a part of the country where it previously had not exerted great influence. The problems in Basra have been festering, Morrell said. "I think the city has always been dealing with a level of criminality and corruption that no one has been comfortable with," he said. "It has not been to a point such that it became a security threat that would undermine the central government."

Iraqi Army discovers cache in Salah ad Din

MNFI

TIKRIT, Iraq (March 20, 2008) – Iraqi Soldiers discovered a weapons cache of explosives east of Balad, March 16. The weapons cache included ammonium nitrate, more than a dozen mortar shells, several pounds of homemade explosives, several weapons, and materials for making improvised explosive devices. “These discoveries will continue to deny the enemy the means to conduct future attacks,” said Maj. Dan Meyers, a U.S. military spokesman in northern Iraq.

Girl awaiting surgery may get wish

3rd Infantry Division Public Affairs

FOB KALSU, Iraq (March 20, 2008) – A young girl and her family are anxiously awaiting a decision from an organization in Los Angeles to determine the fate of her eyesight.

Soldiers of Company D, 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, escorted 5-year-old Noor to the 86th Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad, March 14, to have her eyes evaluated by an optometrist. The medical evaluation done in Iraq will give doctors almost 8,000 miles away the information they need to determine whether they’ll perform the surgery.

Initial diagnosis by Lt. Col. Hee-Choon Lee, battalion surgeon for the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, found that Noor was blind due to a birth defect which resulted in poorly-developed corneas in both her eyes. Her 32-year-old uncle Mustafa also suffers from the same defect. The information from Noor’s medical appointment will be evaluated by doctors from the Eye Defects Research Foundation, a non-governmental organization in Los Angeles. The foundation will make a decision on whether or not she is a viable candidate for surgery and where the surgery would take place.

Lee said if representatives from the foundation can find other patients to operate on in Iraq, then a trip could be organized. If not, then coalition forces would work to have the young child and her family taken to Los Angeles to have the surgery done.

While her uncle is also being evaluated as a candidate for surgery, his case requires more caution. Lee said because he is an adult, his eyes might not heal as easily as those of his young niece. "I think Noor's left eye has a lot of hope. Her right eye may not be a good candidate because it is too small,” said Lee a native of Larton, Va., “All the (ultrasound) pictures were sent up and we're waiting.”

In a study of corneal transplants success in pediatric patients done by Emory University, the success rate in the best of circumstances was only 50 percent. “We are all working towards getting this young girl the gift of sight," Lee said.

Medics nurse starving child back to health

Bagram Media Center.

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan (March 18, 2008) — Too weak to move out of the fetal position or even utter a noise, a malnourished 2-year-old girl, weighing only seven pounds, was nursed back to health by Afghan National Security and Coalition forces medics in Arghandab District, Zabul Province, recently.

“When she arrived she weighed 7.8 pounds,” said a Coalition soldier, at the scene. “She was so weak she could not move out of the fetal position and did not respond when we gave her a bath. Apparently, the child has never even attempted to speak either.”

She was brought to the attention of the ANSF during a humanitarian aid mission in Zabul Province during Feb. 25 and Coalition forces knew she would need to receive immediate care at a nearby Coalition medical facility to survive. Her father objected because he feared insurgent reprisal for accepting help from the Coalition forces. The District Chief eased his fears by explaining the consequences of inaction.

After deliberation, the father went with his daughter to the clinic for treatment, said the soldier. “The first two weeks of intensive care started this child on the road to recovery,” said a Coalition soldier.

During the initial stages of treatment, the medical team cared for the girl around the clock. To prevent future problems, the father was instructed on the proper care and feeding for a child of her age. By his own admission, the father had raised the infant exclusively on a diet of tea and bread. “She devoured every ounce of food we put in front of her,” the soldier said. “Her cheeks and face really filled out in a short time, and she finally uncurled out of the fetal position enough to move on her own.”

The girl weighed 12.6 pounds when Coalition medics released her March 12. She had gained almost five pounds in 12 days. “She still has a lot of recovering to do, but she is heading in the right direction,” a soldier said.

Afghan citizen turns in IED cache in Oruzgan

Bagram Media Center.

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan (March 14, 2008) — Afghan National Security Forces, assisted by Coalition forces, conducted a security patrol that found and disarmed an improvised explosive device cache turned in by a local Afghan citizen to Provincial Police Chief Juma Gul in Oruzgan Province, Afghanistan, March 10, 2008. The Afghan National Police Chief notified the Afghan National Army they had secured an IED cache site in the middle of a heavily travelled road during the operation. The ANA provided the outer cordon while a specially-trained ANP search and disarm team swept the area for additional IED material. One canister was identified, and the ANP began digging it up. The device was deemed too hazardous to recover and was destroyed in place. “The mission was managed and executed by the ANSF,” said Army Capt. Vanessa R. Bowman, a Coalition forces spokesperson. “The destruction of the IED cache sends two strong messages; the Afghan civilian trusted the ANP, and the superior training of the ANSF led to saving Afghan lives.”

Running a city in southern Iraq

MNFI Press Desk.

CAMP BUCCA, Iraq (March 16, 2008) — Sewers, water, electricity, trash and fuel are services vital to any city in the United States, and urban populations simply cannot function effectively without proper city management oversight. About 30 members of Oklahoma's 1st Battalion, 160th Field Artillery, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team face these same challenges in the middle of a desert in southern Iraq. The Guard members manage a facility with a population of more than 26,000 soldiers, sailors, airmen, contractors, Department of Defense civilians and detainees at Camp Bucca, Iraq. The camp sits starkly in the middle of the desert -- all commodities and goods must be trucked into the desolate base camp.

"We are running a city," said 160th Rear Area Operations Center commander, Lt. Col. David Jordan, of Midwest City. Many of Oklahoma's 45th soldiers work in the Theatre Interment Facility, which holds about 20,000 detainees. The detainees are being detained as an imperative threat to the country's security in accordance with a United Nations Security Council resolution. In addition to managing services and life support for the camp, the soldiers will also work to improve living conditions at the facility. "We're going to increase our gym space to 5,700 square feet," said Jordan. Other projects include a multi-sport field, boxing ring, new office space, ice factory, wastewater treatment plant, improvements to the chapel and a new housing area called Knoxville.

Among the numerous projects to be supervised and managed by the RAOC soldiers are 1,000 new beds for service members -- many soldiers currently live in tents. "The goal is to provide more containerized housing units on our base," said Jordan. "We have several couples waiting on the new housing in Knoxville," said Sgt. 1st Class Mitchell Brickey, of Mustang, who supervises the housing of all troops in and out of the base camp. The camp's married couples serve together, but can't live together due to a lack of married housing.

The Oklahomans work hand in hand with Iraqi contractors to oversee the construction of all new projects. "We still function on time, on target in the field artillery; any projects we"ve got are focused on time and on target. We will continue to get things done on time – deliver fire at the right time and right place," said executive officer Maj. Woody Elmore, of Chandler.

The camp's concrete brick making facility is run by Iraqi contractors, and the bricks are used throughout the various construction projects on the camp. "The local Iraqi men are good to work with, and we have great cooperation with them. They take great pride in their work; it's their reputation," said Sgt. 1st Class Rafe Cummings, of Chandler.

"It's very beautiful – a system for everything, we work through the process and get what we need to do the project with the correct assets," said Ali Jihad, an Iraqi project manager. The Iraqi company lacked modernization during Saddam's reign. "Now we are bringing construction up to new standards," he added.

Boosting Karbala agribusiness, tourism, investment

By Jasmine Chopra
MND-C PAO

KARBALA, Iraq (March 14, 2008) — Boosting agribusiness, tourism and private investment by way of social venture capital were the top issues discussed at a March 12 meeting at Iraqi police headquarters in Karbala. Iraqi government officials, local businessmen, Multi-National Division - Center leaders and provincial reconstruction team members participated in the meeting. Security in Karbala is steadily improving, said Karbala provincial governor Aqil al-Khazali, as evidenced by the millions of pilgrims who safely commemorated Ashura in the holy city. “Karbala is ready for investment,” al-Khazali said.

Brig. Gen. Edward Cardon, MND-C deputy commander for support, agreed safety has improved and Iraqis are doing a good job of policing their own communities. “I don’t have to visit Karbala often because you have proven capable of handling the situation,” he said to Maj. Gen. Ra’ad Jawad, chief of the Karbala provincial police.

With improved safety, local business leaders and PRT members are planning ways to link Karbala to U.S. Agency for International Development programs as well as lucrative private investment, said Don Cook, a PRT team leader.

Vast agricultural resources, in particular poultry farms, make opportunities for high return in the agribusiness sector possible, said A.A. Araji, an agricultural economist who believes employing the use of greenhouses is an efficient way for Karbala to maximize its agricultural potential. Al-Khazali and local business leaders are eager to see funds earmarked for Karbala’s redevelopment make their way to local government instead of getting stuck in Baghdad bureaucracy, they said. “We would like to see monies forwarded directly to our local government. We can handle such responsibility and we want to make sure promises for aid are kept,” al-Khazali said.

In addition to agribusiness opportunities, participants discussed ways to tap into Karbala’s religious tourism potential. Considered a holy city to most Shia Muslims, Karbala is home to sacred shrines. Under Saddam Hussein’s regime, the pilgrimage to Karbala was banned. This year’s Ashura events, which occurred in late February and early March, were largely peaceful, Jawad said, speaking through an interpreter.

Local businessmen hope reduced violence will stimulate religious tourism and persuade would-be tourists to fill hotels and restaurants in Karbala, they said. Participants also explored ways of bringing private investors to the table. Plans for an unnamed private investment company official to meet with Karbala government leaders and PRT members next week were established. “We want to see the people of Karbala succeed,” Cardon said.

Wednesday's Hero: 1st Lt. W. Bryan Jackson

Today is the day we put politics on the shelf and take the time to honor our men and women who are risking their very own lives to protect their team, their country, their families, and us. We honor them because they deserve our gratitude. We will continue to honor them even after the last Soldier has come home.

This week's hero is named 1st. Lt. W. Bryan Jackson, and he is from Whidbey Island, WA. The award he earned is the second highest, the Distinguished Service Cross. The only medal higher is the Medal of Honor. 1st. Lt. Jackson is a member of the Army, and he was serving as a 2nd Lt. at the time of this operation.

A second lieutenant at the time of his heroic action on Sept. 27, 2006, Lt. Jackson was cited for selfless courage under extreme enemy fire while serving as a company fire support officer with company A, Task Force 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.

Lt. Jackson was engaged in combat operations with his unit against insurgents and while he attempted to recover a disabled vehicle, his unit came under heavy machine gun fire, which resulted in several Soldiers being wounded. As he applied first aid to a severely wounded comrade, he too was shot in the thigh.

Lt. Jackson’s citation in part reads: “Upon regaining consciousness after being shot, second lieutenant alternated between returning fire and administering first aid to the Soldier. Second Lt. Jackson was hit again with machine gun fire as he helped carry his wounded comrade to safety, but he never faltered in his aid. Although his own severe wounds required immediate evacuation and surgical care, 2nd Lt. Jackson refused medical assistance until his wounded comrade could be treated. Second Lt. Jackson’s selfless courage under extreme enemy fire was essential to saving another Soldier’s life and is in keeping with the finest traditions of military service…” [Continue reading this article at The QandO.]
For some more links, please check the Washington Post story, the Citation, Project Hero blog (The QandO), and you may download this Hero's story by right clicking and choosing "Save Target As...".

I would like to say, "Thank you" to 1st Lt. Jackson. I would also like to say job well done. It is to people like these whom I shall honor and be grateful to for keeping this country safe. Thank you to all of you as well. Godspeed.

Stop the ACLU Blogburst 3.26.2008

This is today's Stop the ACLU Blogburst. I am going to post it here, because it is very disturbing. I live in California, and I remember the fights we've had with them over the tiny Cross in the LA county seal and the Cross at Mt. Soledad. Now they are spending our tax dollars to honor these atheist, Stalinist thieves? This is simply disgusting.

Happy ACLU Day San Diego!
by Jay @ 8:15 pm on March 26, 2008.

Yes, even after the ACLU cost them over $900,000 in city tax dollars in their attack on the Mt. Soledad cross, the San Diego City Council voted yesterday to pass a resolution “commending the American Civil Liberties Union of the San Diego and Imperial Counties for its continuous advocacy for the rights and freedoms of all San Diego” and proclaiming an “American Civil Liberties Union Day” in the City of San Diego. Give me a freaking break!
Two speakers opposed the recognition, including Heather Cameron, a representative of the law firm of Charles LiMandri.

LiMandri also serves as the West Coast director for the Thomas More Law Center, which along with other organizations, including the American Center for Law and Justice, donated thousands of hours of time to fight the ACLU’s demand that San Diego remove a historic cross from the Mt. Soledad Veterans’ Memorial. The case continued even after the federal government took over the site and San Diego no longer had control over it.

Cameron told the council members “one of the great myths” is that the ACLU started out as a pro-civil rights organization.

ACLU founder Roger Baldwin said, “Communism is the goal,” she told the council.

Cameron said Baldwin asserted that only a “small group of highly educated intellectuals” should dictate what everyone else believes.

In San Diego, the ACLU cost the city’s taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars by raising the fight over the Mt. Soledad cross and continued the battle even after 76 percent of the voters supported maintaining the cross where it was built.

James Hartline, a Christian activist in San Diego, also spoke. He said the proposal to honor the ACLU was “one of the most repugnant acts” ever accomplished by the council and blamed the ACLU for a “long-term campaign of hate and religious bias against Christians.”

He cited a previous case brought against the city by the ACLU in which the organization collected $900,000 from city taxpayers.

“We do not want our names to be used to honor the American Civil Liberties Union,” Hartline said. “You are doing so in our name.”

A bipartisan team of council members, Tony Young and Brian Maienschein, opposed the resolution, and Jim Madaffer did not vote. The other five members – Kavin Faulconer, Atkins, Donne Frye, Ben Hueso and Scott Peters – went along.
Hmmm…maybe everyone will dress in orange jumpsuits and waterboard one another in the streets to commemorate the day.

Rick Roberts rants so I don’t have to:
Hey, San Diego! How will YOU celebrate ACLU Day? What, you haven’t prepared? Well, our local government sure did!

The City of San Diego took nearly one million dollars of your tax dollars to officially tell the ACLU, ‘as a city, we love you.’

What kind of representation is this???

OUR San Diego City Council voted IN FAVOR of an ACLU ‘Day of Honor’ just yesterday.

Kavin Faulconer, Toni Atkins, Donne Frye, Ben Hueso and Scott Peters all believe that we as a community should embrace 75 years of the American Criminal Liberties Union.

Is this accurate representation of OUR community?!

I think not. We’re not San Francisco. At least not yet. I would even go so far as to say that the City of San Diego isn’t exactly into defending illegal aliens, terrorists, and Fred Phelps…
Absolutely outrageous that a city counsil would vote for a day like this after the ACLU sucked them dry. Talk about representatives taking no account for the opinion of citizens they are supposed to represent. I mean, if they put it up for the people to vote they know it would never pass. Sickening. The San Diego city council should have their phones ringing off the hook.

Hat tip: Michelle Malkin!

ACT! for America 3.26.2008

I have a few articles for you today from ACT! for America. American Congress for Truth is a great organization that focuses on the effects and behaviours of 'questionable' Muslims amongst us and their agendas. Yes, it may be politically incorrect, and it may even be distasteful to you, but this is information you WILL NOT receive from your news. If you do receive some of it, I can assure you that it is probably political correct. This is unacceptable to me. We need the whole picture to make informed decisions. So let's take a look at some these articles, shall we?

CAIR trains FBI agents as new report cites links to terror
By Rowan Scarborough

An American Muslim group identified as an unindicted co-conspirator in a criminal terrorism case is being used by the FBI to train its agents about Islam.

The FBI declined to respond to Insight’s questions about this seeming disconnect, as one of the pre-eminent anti-terrorist research centers in America is set to release an extensive report on the same prominent U.S. Muslim group, accusing the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) of being a foe, rather than an ally, in the war on terror. [Continue reading.]

To add insult to injury, the 10 page report done by Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT), led by Steve Emerson and released March 24, 2008, stated that CAIR started in the early 1990's to pave the way for radical Islamists so when the War on Jihadis came to fruition, they could frame it as a war against Muslims. To get a better idea of what we're up against, read parts 1, 2, and 3 by IPT. These are .pdf files with information about CAIR. Brace yourself before reading further.

An American Muslim Speaks Out (to his own great peril!).

The American Islamic Forum for Democracy had, before at the time of his arrest and indictment, been on record calling for the highest punishment of this traitor and that he be made an example of what happens to those who choose the transnational goals of political Islam over American citizenship. Purim Shpiel Obama: 'Outrageously wrong' to reprint Hamas manifesto.

On the eve of the Jewish holiday of Purim, Thursday, Obama's spinmeisters sent out another damage control email this time to the Jewish Telegraph Agency (JTA) condemning his Pastor's church bulletin for reprinting an article by the political head of Hamas, Marzook. The reprint in the church bulletin contained vicious elements of the heinous anti-Semitic Hamas Charter. Marzook even deemed the Palestinian terror group's Charter equivalent to the US Declaration of Independence. What's a leading Democratic Presidential contender to do, but, deny, deny, deny. Islamofascism fraud at Wright State.
By Patrick Poole.
FrontPageMagazine.com | Tuesday, March 25, 2008.

Power has its privileges. That’s no doubt what Mohammad “Moody” Kassem, a student government officer at Wright State University, thought a few weeks ago when he devised a plan to use his student government position to help promote the extremist agenda of another organization he is also a leader of – the Muslim Student Association.

In late February, Moody Kassem posted an online poll on the Wright State student government website directed exclusively towards Muslims which asked: If you are of Islamic faith would you utilize a permanent prayer room? [Continue reading.]

Congressman McGovern+FARC=Treason?

I have included a question mark, because I refuse to reach any conclusion on the basis of one news/opinion article. However if this is true, it is time for us to get serious about the treatment of people in this country, who on a constant basis commit treason, by executing this one.

There is only one Commander-in-Chief, like it or not. He is the only one with the Constitutional authority to be speaking policy to any foreign leaders. These are not even foreign leaders but enemies of America. This is looking very bad.

The article comes from the Wall Street Journal's opinion section titled, "A FARC Fan's Notes." It concerns the terrorist that was killed near Columbia about a month ago, his papers and computer files, the Congressman, and his go-between.

It also explains why the Democrat Party has been against any help we have been trying to provide for our ally, Columbia. Funny thing, they say we are arrogant and won't play nice with our allies, yet they are pursuing a means to destablize the country of Columbia!

Please read the article. I have to run for a while, but I wanted to bring this to your attention. Don't make any judgements...yet. It is tempting, but it isn't fair. To anyone. We are above their tactics. This way when we nail him, we can be sure he faces the firing squad...where they all belong.

News: ACLJ, Vets4Freedom, video, bloggers, pics

Today's news includes a prayer request from ACLJ, press attention to the Vets For Freedom, movie, newspaper article, news about town by This Ain't Hell, But You Can See It From Here, Churchgoers attacked, and more. Let us begin.

The ACLJ (American Center for Law & Justice) has asked us to pray that four of the nine SCOTUS (Supreme Court of the United States) will agree to hear the two cases before them. These cases are related to the Ten Commandments and their display. Here are their file numbers and briefs: Pleasant Grove City v. Summum (No.07-665) and Duchesne City v. Summum (No. 07-690). This is scheduled to be heard for consideration on March 28, 2008. Thanks.

People who are regulars here already know this, but I shall bring new readers up-to-date. Vets For Freedom is a fine organization of Military personnel who have been touring the States. They started in San Diego, CA, and they shall end up in Washington, DC. on April 8, 2008, the same day General Petreaus is to report to Congress. They will be there to support him and their brothers at arms who are still in theatre. The media has finally began to take notice. Here are the beginnings of a few articles:

War vets: Finish the job.
The Arizona Republic.
Mar. 21, 2008 12:00 AM

Almost the entire, years-long debate over the American military's presence in Iraq has been waged as though the soldiers themselves were not in the room.

And, usually, for good reason . . . they weren't in the room. By and large, policy makers on both left and right rarely have thought to ask the very people who have served on the front lines for their opinion.

That has changed. Maybe nobody's asking, but the soldiers are telling, like it or not. [Continue reading.]
It's about time! Now for a video (you'll have to go over there): The Veteran's Network Reports on the National Heroes Tour, March 24, 2008. This is an awesome TV type video. You should check it out.

Here is one more article from Vets For Freedom. It is a rather a sad state of affairs, I'll bet almost anything they'd make way for Mr. Wright were he to have been the invited.

Forest Lake event canceled; too political.
Forest Lake High's principal said the decision was spurred by concerns that the presentation was more political than educational.
By ALLIE SHAH, Star Tribune.
Last update: March 24, 2008 - 9:50 PM

A national tour featuring decorated veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan won't be stopping at Forest Lake Area High School today as planned, after school leaders abruptly canceled the visit.

Steve Massey, the school principal, said the decision to cancel was prompted by concerns that the event was becoming political rather than educational and therefore was not suitable for a public school.

He said the school had received several phone calls from parents and others, some of whom indicated that they may stage a protest if the event took place.

"The event was structured to be an academic classroom discussion around military service. We thought we'd provide an opportunity for kids to learn about service in the context of our history classes," Massey said. "As the day progressed, it became clear that this was becoming a political event ... which would be inappropriate in a public setting.

"We decided to cancel," Massey said. Organizers of the National Heroes Tour then scrambled to relocate the event to the American Legion building in Forest Lake. The visit, which U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Stillwater, had been scheduled to attend, is sponsored by Vets for Freedom, a national organization run by Pete Hegseth, a 1999 graduate of Forest Lake Area High School who served with the 101st Airborne in Iraq in 2005-06.

"I think it's extremely unfortunate that a school would bow to the political pressure of outside groups and not bring in a veterans organization," Hegseth said. "Are we saying that patriotism and duty and honor have no place in our public schools?" So far, the tour has visited one school, albeit a private school.

The stop in Forest Lake was supposed to involve about 150 social studies students and was going to be closed to the public but open to the media. But the last-minute venue change left Hegseth wondering how many people would actually show up today.

"I don't know if we'll have a crowd," he said. "We changed venues, but we don't have the ability to publicize it." He said he had talked with school officials ahead of time and assured them that the presenters would not make any political statements.

"We had a number of conversations at the beginning of this to make sure our message was in keeping with the traditions of a public school," Hegseth said.

"We have not endorsed a presidential candidate. We're not in the business of doing that." According to the Veterans for Freedom website, the national tour "is about supporting our troops, honoring their commitment and rallying the country to complete the missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

At this critical juncture in our country, we need Americans, lawmakers and the media to fully recognize -- and appreciate -- the sacrifice of our brave military and the dramatic success they have achieved, especially in Iraq with the new counterinsurgency strategy."

When asked whether the part about "rallying the country to complete the missions in Iraq and Afghanistan" could indeed be construed as political, Hegseth said that the group agreed not to advocate about the "progress made in Iraq and Afghanistan."

"It's Iraq and Afghan veterans talking about what they saw and what they did there, and about what it means to put on the uniform of your country," he said. The veterans started their bus tour in San Diego on March 14 and will end April 9 in New York City.
Allie Shah • 651-298-1550 A national tour featuring decorated veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan won't be stopping at Forest Lake Area High School today as planned, after school leaders abruptly canceled the visit.

I copied the whole article, because these articles have a funny way of disappearing. Yes, it is quite odd how they do that. They have the stones to put them out there in the first place. They should have the stones to carry through with their invitation. Political my arse.

Please go over to their site to check on the progress and successes of their tour and if you can, please make a donation of any amount to help them. If you know any Iraq/Afghanistan Vets, let them about this site. They are always looking for more members. Right now they have stations in 44 states and 21,000 members. They are all focused on getting their message out, "LET THEM WIN", and they are also trying to help their brothers and sisters at arms. Thanks.

I also have some links from some articles over at This ain't Hell, but you can see it from here. Berserkers attack Easter Mass and blogger is about a groups of idiots who thought that attacking a Church on Easter Day was a cool thing to do. It is also covered by The Chickenhawk Express, Gateway Pundit, and Scott at Flopping Aces. Midnight Blue was attacked by these animals, and the report of her attack is over at the Free Republic. In case you are wondering, yes, these were war-protesters. Please check out these (new) sites articles. They are each unique, and they are all well written. They did a very good job on this situation whereas I am about to blow my top. Thank you Chickenhawk Express, Gateway Pundit, Scott, Michelle, and Hot Air.

Update: Uh-oh, Michele Malkin is on it. They’re in for it now.

Update: Hot Air has the latest and video on the Chicago felons.

Such peaceful people, eh?

Next he has written about Preaching to the choir. Would you like to guess which choir? Why it's Otis Moss! Wright's replacement, but not to worry. They all sing the same tune, and Obama refuses to leave this racist church. Hmm. I guess that answers all I need to know about someone who claims a desire to unite the citizens of the United States. Would that be only the black people, by any chance? Did he actually state which country he wants to unite? (John has written a very article about the above article. Go check it out.)

Now for the story I was searching for so that we can end on a good note: Counterprotest in Berkeley. Everyone (except me) has a very good post about this event. Please check out some of the pictures and articles. He has several links. It is always good to know we still outnumber the freaks! Have a great day. ;)
