If you haven't heard by now, the governor of Illinois has been arrested for trying to sell Sen. Obama's seat in the Senate. The FBI arrested him at his home at 7 this morning. What? Corruption in Illinois? Chicago? Shocked, I tell you, I'm shocked!

Now for the open trackback...ya'll have a great evening. ;)

Soldiers Train Iraqi EOD's

MND-B PAO

FOB FALCON, Iraq (Nov. 20, 2008) – Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers conducted explosive ordnance training with Iraqi security forces bomb disposal technicians Nov. 16 at Forward Operating Base Falcon in southern Baghdad. Soldiers and leaders from the 752nd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company, attached to the 1st Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, MND-B, detonated a van full of munitions to train soldiers from the 9th Iraqi Army Bomb Disposal Company on the proper techniques for effective post-blast site exploitation.

"I think this training is important for the Iraqi EOD because it gives them a chance to see how we operate," said Staff Sgt. Stephen Cunningham, a team leader assigned to the 752nd EOD Co.

Soldiers conducted a controlled detonation of a vehicle Nov. 16 during an Iraqi security forces training exercise to create a realistic scenario for post-blast analysis of the site. The Soldiers packed the van with approximately 200 pounds of explosives to properly depict a real-world scenario. "As far as their equipment is concerned, they have plenty of robots; their bomb suits and their knowledge is very up to date," explained Cunningham. "They know what they're dealing with, especially when it comes to conventional ordnance." The training keeps the IA soldiers on their toes and it contributes to the fight in the long run, said Spc. Curtis Garner, an EOD specialist assigned to the 752nd EOD Co.

"They seem really responsive, and they have a good grasp on what they are doing for their country," stated Garner. "We just offer them a different avenue, outlook or thought process."

"In the beginning, we received good training and knowledge from our friends," said Lt. Col. Neve Rathwan Risa, commander of the 9th IA Div. Bomb Disposal Company. "They have good experience, and hopefully we will develop ourselves to deal with the improvised explosive devices." Risa stressed the importance of knowledge and training to his soldiers and said he believes the exercise was a good opportunity for Iraqi bomb disposal technicians to train with coalition forces. "It's very important to have this kind of branch in the new IA to deal with all the roadside bombs and to disarm any explosive devices and make the roads safe for the people and the army," Risa said.

The team is an excellent bomb disposal company, said 1st Lt. Brad Lewis, EOD technician assigned to the 752nd EOD Co. They are one of the leading bomb disposal companies in the IA. "These guys played a big part in the push for Sadr City earlier this year," stated Lewis. "Since, we have been trying to work them by establishing training programs, training of the younger soldiers and getting them to the point where they could pass the EOD school in Basra."

This type of training signifies what the ISF needs to eventually take control of another operational area, said Maj. Mike Ricciarti, liaison to MND-B EOD operations. Ricciarti said coalition forces are a better-equipped and trained force over the last five years and he believes improvements for the ISF are on the horizon. "We are partnered with the ISF; we are mentoring them, and we are assisting on levels that we can," Ricciarti explained. "We're sharing tactics, techniques and procedures that will help them stay alive and continue on with their mission."

Jihadis Pressured On Afghan Border

by Jim Garamone
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON (Nov. 18, 2008) – With U.S., Afghan and Pakistani forces applying pressure on both sides of the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, the enemy “is running out of options for places to go,” a senior U.S. officer in the region said Tuesday.

Army Col. John M. Spiszer, commander of Task Force Duke, which is centered on the 1st Infantry Division’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team, said the addition of units from the 10th Mountain Division’s 3rd Brigade Combat Team in January will change the operating environment in the four-province region of Regional Command East. Speaking with Pentagon reporters via teleconference from Forward Operating Base Fenty in Afghanistan’s Nangahar province, Spiszer said the region also includes the provinces of Nuristan, Konar and Laghman.

Capt. John Williams (left), Commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment (Airborne), observes the hill top while Staff Sgt. William Randall (center),directs Sgt. Shawn Seymour (right), a M-240B machine gun operator, during Operation Mountain Highway II April 27 in Nuristan Province Afghanistan. American, Afghan and Packistani troops are sqeezing terror groups in the border region. (U.S. Army Photo/Staff Sgt. Brandon Aird)The area is the most violent in Afghanistan, the colonel said, and the border is a large part of that. In the past year, Taliban and other terror groups have been able to find safe havens on both sides of the rugged border. The 4,200 members of Task Force Duke have worked hard to tamp down the violence, he said, and increased Pakistani efforts on their side of the border have helped. “In our area of operations, the border is becoming less and less of a transit zone, as Afghan national security forces, U.S. troops, the Pakistani military and the Pakistani Frontier Corps continue to conduct complementary operations against our joint enemy,” Spiszer said.

One example is Operation Lionheart, which began recently. This is a complementary operation with the Pakistani military and the frontier corps. All entities share intelligence to prevent the enemy from transiting the border, as operations continue to defeat the insurgents in Bajaur tribal agency in Pakistan, the colonel said. Spiszer called Lionheart a good start, but acknowledged it has been a challenge for U.S. troops. “It's not like I've got a lot of extra troops available,” he said. “But what we have done is work very hard to refocus our … intelligence, surveillance [and] reconnaissance assets, to identify who is transiting the border and launch attacks on those deemed a threat.”

The biggest success, the colonel said, is the cooperation and coordination that's developing between the Pakistani military and coalition and Afghan forces. “I wish I had more resources to devote to it, and we will have more over the coming months,” he said.

The near-simultaneous operations on both sides of the border are making it difficult for the enemy to operate, Spiszer said, noting that the task force will continue to keep pressure on the enemy throughout the winter. “We're continuing our operations along the border and in the capillary valleys and mountains throughout the winter to give the enemy no respite,” he said. As the Afghan security forces develop and as the 10th Mountain Division arrives, Task Force Duke “will present the enemy with a transformed environment next spring where he will be hard pressed to operate,” Spiszer said.

An additional 800 Americans will join the task force in January. The additional American forces will provide the force more capacity and “will give us the capability to do things faster, to make a difference quicker,” Spiszer said. “I think we're making great progress,” he said, “but there's just too few of us. I think the potential is there. We're moving forward, but with the additional troops that they're going to bring, it's going to get us into some of the areas that we're a little bit challenged right now.”

Security is just one aspect of the counterinsurgency fight in the region, the colonel noted. In fiscal 2008, the command spent $160 million toward the advancement and development of Afghanistan. “All the provinces were very heavy into road building,” he said. Irrigation projects, bridges, trade schools, forest conservation and development of agricultural capabilities were also funded. “We didn't want to overpromise, but progress is definitely in motion, despite the ongoing combat operations,” Spiszer said.

The command also has helped governance issues, working with governors to handle the refugee crisis from Pakistan in July and working against poppy cultivation. The command also aided Afghans in preparing for regional elections next year, the colonel said.

Iraqi, CF Discuss Border Security

by Maj. Chad Carroll
4th BCT, 1st Cav. Div. Public Affairs

FOB GARRY OWEN, Iraq (Nov. 18, 2008) – For the first time in Maysan province, leaders from the Iraqi army, Iraqi police and Iraqi border patrol met with Coalition leaders near the provincial capital of Amarah Nov. 15. Officers from 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, worked behind the scenes for weeks to bring together commanders from the 11th Border Enforcement, the 38th and 41st Iraqi Army Brigades and the Maysan police.

The Coalition Soldiers assembled this group to share information on suspected criminal activity and plan future cooperative efforts to increase border security in the province.

Coaliton officers meet with Iraqi security officials from southern Iraq to discuss boarder enforcement during the Maysan Security Conference held near Amarah, Iraq, Nov. 15. “Up to this point, the border patrol, Iraqi police and Iraqi army have done great work in securing the province,” said Col. Philip Battaglia, commander, 4th BCT, 1st Cav. Div. “This conference represents a huge step toward synchronizing all those successes to close security gaps and secure the province as a whole.”

Iraqi leaders were extremely pleased with the new level of cooperation and how the conference demonstrated the big picture to the provincial leaders. “We are having great success, but since the province is such a large area to cover, we have to make sure our forces’ locations are right with respect to each other,” said Maj. Gen. Habib Taleb Abbas, 10th IA Div. commander.

Habib chaired the conference and offered time to other commanders to address their ideas for future cooperation among the rest of Iraq’s security forces.

Security during Iraq’s upcoming January election was a hot topic for the leaders. “Working together starts with planning together,” said Maj. Gen. Saad Harbiya, commander of Maysan’s police officers. He recommended another conference to solely focus on security for the election.

Three of 4th BCT's battalions are operating in Maysan. The 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, is partnered with the border patrol element to interdict munitions and arrest criminals crossing from Iran into Iraq. The 2nd Bn., 7th Cav. Regt., is partnered with the 38th IA Bde. and the 5th Bn., 82nd Field Artillery Regt., is partnered with the 41st IA Bde.

The Iraqi security forces in southern Iraq have arrested approximately 200 suspected criminals and seized more than 9,000 various munitions – to include improvised explosive device and explosively formed projectile materials since 4th BCT arrived this summer.

Left's Moral Relativism In War

This video is disturbing to most of us who do not believe in sending our children - under the age of 18 - to fight in any war. Sure, sometimes a 17 year old may sneak in, but these children have not yet started puberty. That is the first half of Uncle Jimbo's vidoe. The second half shows the successful rescue of a kidnapped boy who was held for $100,000 ransom. You tell me, who do you think are the good guys and who are the bad? I cannot even believe that is a relevant question!

Al Qaeda Summer Camp for Kids- Blackfive TV.

Uncle Jimbo also has an awesome collection of videos he put together over at Blackfive's. He starts off with Vets for Freedom- Kate Norley Back to Iraq, and there are eight videos in total. I especially like the 17 minute one. Well, I liked the one about the puppy too, especially when YankeeMom met her at the DC airport. Thank you to all our Patriot Guards, also!

Oh, I almost forgot. You won't understand my ire until you watch the video. I know many of you may, but I am now referring to those readers who just happened to come upon this article. The Left/Marxists amongst us have a tendency to believe these 'people' can be persuaded with 'talks'. They also claim they deserve the same rights as any other 'human being'.

That is why I emplore you to watch this 4:10 minute video. If you still believe these animals can be reasoned with, that they are not monsters, I have only one suggestion for you. YOU go talk to them. If per chance you end up in the way of a shell headed for the nosebridge of the monster you are 'reasoning' with, oh well. Too bad, so sad, and good riddance.

Our men and women in the Armed Forces are NOTHING like these monsters, and I demand an apology from every Senator and Congressperson and every idiot who ever made the claim that they are. There is a time and a place for everything. When our men and women are out there fighting for our very lives, then we are supposed to remain united. It is the LEFT who are dividing us, and they fooled you into voting them into office. Great job. NOT. We must stop this.

I did not vote for President-elect Obama but when he takes the oath, he will be my president, too. I will feel the same way. I will treat him with the respect due the office, if for no other reason than it is the office. I can say without fear of being wrong, I will treat him one helluva lot better than the opposition has EVER treated PRESIDENT George W. Bush. If you want to know the difference between a Conservative and a Communist Leftist, there is one for ya.

I say this because I am angry. I angry because we are in a global war which half of America refuses to acknowledge, and some of the half that does seems to be forgetting why we fighting in the first place. That puts my life at risk and that gives me the right speak up about it. Heck, just being an American gives me the right, but I am a Conservative. I don't like sticking my nose in where it does not belong. Unlike the LEFTIST MARXISTS amongst us...Have a nice day.

May you walk with the LORD always, and when you cannot take another step, may He carry you the rest of the way until you can walk along side Him again.

New Plant Means Fresh Water For Sadr City

by Kendal Smith
Gulf Region Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

BAGHDAD (Dec. 5, 2008) – For about 2 million Sadr City residents, clean drinking water running through their home faucets was a luxury few had. But now the water is flowing freely thanks to a new U.S. Army Corps of Engineers water treatment plant that was three years in the making. “I am very happy for the 2 million people of Sadr City,” said Iraqi engineer Aqeel Lami who has worked for the Corps of Engineers since the project’s inception.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project engineer Simeon Francis examines filter actuators as they are being cleaned at the R-3 water treatment plant in Baghdad. “It’s the first in Iraq, fully automatic and with American standards of best quality. We meet the people in the streets of Sadr City, and they are very happy,” he said. “They feel that we are interested in them and their health. We are very proud of the success of this project.”

The $27 million Sadr City R-3 water treatment plant construction began in 2005. The northern Sadr City location was chosen based on a government study of water pressure and supply, said Simeon Francis, a Corps of Engineers water expert. “There is simply not enough water to Sadr City from the Kharkh and Shark-Dijilih water treatment plants for the area,” Francis said.

The plant began operation in mid-June with some interruptions due to power restrictions. Today, R-3 produces 4,000 cubic meters of treated water per hour, providing clean, drinkable water to 27 areas of Sadr City — areas that have had no centrally distributed water. The plant hit full capacity in September, and a performance test in October confirmed the quality of the daily output at 25 million gallons per day. That output equates to clean, quality water for a total of 1.5 million people in Sadr City and Baghdad, Francis said.

The plant will employ 150 people for operations, maintenance and management, said project engineer Roland Belew. “Operating at full capacity, the R-3 water treatment plant drastically increases the potable water to the people of Sadr City,” Belew said. “The plant is operating at 100 percent capacity right now. It’s a great success story for USACE.”

Founders' Daily Quote: 5 Dec 08

"There is not a more important and fundamental principle in legislation, than that the ways and means ought always to face the public engagements; that our appropriations should ever go hand in hand with our promises. To say that the United States should be answerable for twenty-five millions of dollars without knowing whether the ways and means can be provided, and without knowing whether those who are to succeed us will think with us on the subject, would be rash and unjustifiable. Sir, in my opinion, it would be hazarding the public faith in a manner contrary to every idea of prudence."

--James Madison, Speech in Congress, 22 April 1790.

Mr. Madison, no one is listening to the Founders' anymore, and those of us who are trying to get them to listen get shouted down. Well, at least they try. They shall not succeed, because it is our country herself which is at stake. May God hear our repentance and heal our land.

Clean Your Sidebar Often Or Else...

I knew it would take some time, and that it did. It has now been three days (I think, I haven't been sleeping that much). You must check EVERY site you haven't been to for a while just to make sure someone is still there. That is one of the ways I've been able to get out of blogging for a while. Actually, my computer started locking up on me, and I don't know why.

I thought it could have something to do with the number of gadgets I have on it, so I am moving my sidebar to Rosemary's Blogrolls. Yeah, I had to create ANOTHER headache. lol. Since I have this site and Rosemary's News and Ideas, I have links that I have here but not there and vise-versa. Hopefully with these new links, that won't happen again.

I put the links into categories so people could seek their interests. Just to give you an idea of how many links I have, I put all of those links alphabetically into one category, Rosemary's Blogroll. And that's not all of them! Ugh...

Loss For Words

Last Wednesday I wrote an article about the goings-on in Africa and what it could mean to our national security. I also made a claim that we should be more vigilant about our ports, because I was afraid the next attack would be coming from the sea. Little did I know...

On Friday I wrote about two men, a Father and son, both were receiving their Silver Stars' on Nov. 28th which they had earned for selflessly putting themselves in harms way to protect the lives of their men in a time of war. What makes this story unique is that Chief Warrant Officer 2 Jonathan Harris' Father, Retired Staff Sgt. Gary Harris, earned his medals 39 years ago. It is because of the Left and the anti-war crowd that he was denied them. (He also earned a Bronze Star.)

It is now Tuesday morning, and I haven't been able to write a thing since I posted that last one. I don't know if it is the anger building up within me or if it is the knowledge of all the sleeper cells living right below us in Mexico and in the United States, and no one that can do anything about it seems to give a damn. My friends, it is time to prepare for the worst. I am not freaking out, I am serious. If we want to save our Union, we are going to have to do it ourselves.

Now you can understand why I have been at a loss for words. This is the calmest I have stated my case. The two posts I wrote are, "Africa: The Unnoticed Threat" and "From VietNam To Afghanistan: A Family Of Heroes".

Source(s): Africa: CounterTerrorismBlog and Douglas Farah's Sub-Saharan Africa's Rising Role in Terrorism and Crime; and VietNam-Afghanistan: DVIDSHub (you must be registered).

Have a nice day. Remember, no matter what, God IS in control. Thank God!

PS. What I did not write over there was that it took me the better part of two weeks to wrap my head around what happened on September 11, 2001. I was numb. Nothing was real. When I found that my prediction came true about being attacked by sea (except not on our shores), that really shook me. I don't know why, I was expecting it. Or was I? Do I place that must trust in a corrupt government that only pretends to listen 'we the people' just before election day? I sure as heck hope not! Man up, get your plans ready as to where to meet in case of an attack (try to agree on an out of state relative to call, it's better and easier), stock your pantries and your arms, have enough water for at least a month, and for God's sake, DON'T tell anyone you have it.

Why not? Because when you need, you could get killed for it. That's why not. I know it sounds cruel, but other people have the same option as you do. Just because you were smart does not mean you have to lose everything you planned for in one day. And it will be gone in one day if others find out you are prepared. Take in any orphans, though. Never allow the children to suffer. They have already been through so much.

Why am I writing as if this is a sure fire thing that is going to happen? If you have to ask that question, no explanation I would give you would suffice. You are pathetic. Just wait around to be led. Do not bother those of us who understand the world and the reality of the global war we are facing. Here is a list from "SURVIVAL GEAR & TERRORIST ATTACK" By Tuhon Bill McGrath:
*************************
H KIT: Home kit. The good folks at Special Forces estimate that only 1 in 10 would survive if they tried to live off the land in an emergency. Therefore, your survival goal is to get home and stay at home if at all possible after a terrorist attack.

1. Stored food. I keep bagged or boxed staples like white rice (lasts longer than brown), dried beans, dry soup mix, pasta, powdered milk, etc. in new aluminum garbage cans in my basement (the cans protect the items from the occasional mouse that wanders indoors during cold weather). On shelves I keep canned items like Spam, corned beef hash, canned soups and desserts like canned fruit cocktail. These are things we eat around my house anyway, rather than specialty storage foods like MREs. I keep enough on hand to last for one month if we ate only those items. This might be more than you would need after a terror attack, but I have relatives who live closer to danger zones than I do and they have a standing invitation to come to my house in times of trouble. (Many of my SF friends suggest keeping a much longer supply of food and water. Bio weapons should clear within two weeks and a dirty bomb can deny access to an area for years; so you’ll have to decide what is most likely for your needs in your area). I do know of some people who keep supplies of MREs on hand, but this entails having a “survival meal day” once a week to keep supplies fresh. Not a bad idea, if you can get your family to eat the things. Most of my “regular” stored food will last one year in the cool of my basement. I write either the expiration date (as X 7/15/05) with a red perma-marker on the can if it has a date listed, or the purchase date (as P 6/12/04) if it does not. If you have young children, don’t forget comfort foods like cookies and candy. A little goes a long way in making a hard time easier for little ones.

2. Water. We use well water at my house for everything except drinking (and could do this in a pinch), so we would be less effected by a terrorist attack on a public water supply than most people. We use a water cooler for our drinking water and buy 5 gallon bottles for it, but if I needed to leave home in an emergency these bottles would go with me. One gallon per person per day is the amount most survival guides suggest to store at a minimum, but my Special Forces friends say that two gallons per day is more realistic. Based even on the lower figure, I would need to keep 90 gallons on hand for a one month supply for my family of three. Instead of this, I have split my emergency water supply between bottles and a water filter/purifier. To conserve water, I also have stored paper plates & cups, plastic utensils, and disposable cleaning products like baby wipes and paper towels. (If you need to store a large amount of water www.nitro-pak.com has 55 gallon drums made of food grade plastic).

3. Power. After a winter storm left us without power for a week, I got an electric generator. In an emergency this will keep the power going while we eat the perishable food in the refrigerator and keep the furnace running in cold weather.

4. Warmth. In addition to the usual blankets, I have a sleeping bag for each member of the family. If winters are cold by you, (and you don’t have a generator and live in your own home and can afford the installation) a woodstove is a good backup heat source. If you live in an apartment, be careful of kerosene heaters, as they will cause a fire if knocked over. If you must use one, then have a safety plan of how and where to use it and keep an ABC rated fire extinguisher nearby. Don’t forget to keep the room well ventilated as, by their nature; kerosene heaters are eating up oxygen as they operate. Invest in a battery powered CO2 alarm and keep it in the room while the heater is operating.

5. Large first aid kit. Qt bottles of first aid liquids like alcohol, witch hazel, contact lens saline solution (this is plain saline good for eyewash and irrigating wounds), etc.

6. Toiletries. I have extra items in this category, mainly so I will miss the same crowds at the warehouse stores who rush in to buy pallets of toilet paper before every winter storm (not that I have anything against buying toilet paper by the pallet, I just don’t like crowds).

7. Non-electric board games and playing cards (watching bad news on TV all day can be demoralizing, plus you’ll need something to pass the time if the power goes out).

8. 5 mil clear plastic sheeting (found in the paint dept of Home Depot). If terrorists hit a chemical plant or explode a tanker truck in your area and evacuation is impossible, seal off your home by duct taping the plastic to home openings (windows, doors, fireplace, attic vents, etc). Wind and sunlight will disperse, break down or at least significantly weaken, most airborne hazardous chemicals in a few hours. By that time, authorities should know what chemicals were released and should be broadcasting over local radio what your next steps should be.

9. Back up cook stove. If the power goes out, I have a charcoal barbeque grill and a cord of firewood. In addition, a two burner Coalman camp stove and propane tanks allow me to cook indoors. [Read the whole article. It's better than those survival kits I checked out!]

It is an awesome article, and he covers just about every area of concern. That is because his article is based upon a terrorist attack and not just a simple camping trip!

From VietNam To Afghanistan: A Family Of Heroes

Army Pilot, Retired Marine Father Receive Silver Star Awards During Special Ceremony.

By Spc. George Welcome
101st Combat Aviation Brigade Public Affairs

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan (29 Nov. 2008) — Thirty years separate the conclusion of the Vietnam War and the start of the Global War on Terrorism. While time, tactics and technology have made today’s military vastly different from the one which fought in the jungles of Vietnam, the common denominator in the two conflicts is the American service member, whose bravery and sacrifices secure peace and freedom for America and its allies.

It is a rare occurrence when a Soldier receives a Silver Star for courage under fire. Chief Warrant Officer 2 Jonathan Harris became one of the few Soldiers to receive the prestigious award on the evening of Nov. 28, during a ceremony at Combined Joint Task Force-101 Headquarters. But the fact that his father, Retired Staff Sgt. Gary Harris, was also presented with a Silver Star made the event all the more special.

Through the magic of video teleconferencing, the Harris family got to watch as the younger Harris was presented the Silver Star by Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Schloesser, CJTF-101 commanding general, from the conference room at Fort Campbell, Ky. Meanwhile, Soldiers from CJTF-101 watched the video screen, as the elder Harris was pinned with not only the Silver Star, but a Bronze Star he earned as a Marine serving in Vietnam, which were never formally presented to him.

"It's very rare that we present the Silver Star," Schloesser explained to those in attendance at both Fort Campbell and Afghanistan. "We have a very high standard and we make sure that the few who do earn it have done so through selfless sacrifice. It's clear that Mr. Harris did that, and it is also clear that the nation owes a debt to Staff Sgt. (Ret.) Gary Harris, it was almost 40 years ago that he earned it, and I hope in some small way that we can pay back that debt by presenting him his award with his son's today."

Personal courage and selfless service run deep in the Harris family bloodline, as both father and son reacted similarly in their encounters with enemy forces, by risking their lives to ensure the safety of their comrades.

The elder Harris displayed this courage on Aug. 15, 1969 when as a squad leader in Vietnam, his company which was patrolling the outer perimeter near Gol Ree, was attacked with mortar and rocket fire. He quickly directed the members of his squad to return fire on the enemy. As the attack died down, he moved his squad closer to the perimeter, which had been weakened during the barrage. As the enemy resumed its assault, he directed his squad to return fire once again, breaking the enemy attack. During the engagement, he risked his life by helping medics aid wounded Marines and helped bring them to safety.

The younger Harris also displayed bravery in the face of danger by exposing himself to enemy fire. On July 2, 2008, Harris, who is a UH-60 Black Hawk pilot assigned to Company C, 5th Battalion, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, landed his helicopter at a landing zone near Gardez, Afghanistan, to pick up infantry Soldiers for transport, when his aircraft came under attack by enemies using rocket propelled grenades, a heavy machine gun and various assault rifles.

With the aircraft on fire, Harris and crew manage[d] to fly it a short distance before putting it down again. After safely exiting the burning helicopter, the entire crew took up a defensive posture. They managed to contact a CH-47 Chinook, which was in the area to help extract them from the battlefield. As the Chinook landed, the enemy resumed fire. It was then that Harris, who was helping one of his wounded crew chiefs to the helicopter, exposed himself to fire by engaging and killing an approaching enemy combatant. He entered the helicopter only after ensuring that the members of his crew, the ground forces and the quick reaction force were safely aboard.

"Mr. Harris has been great since the incident," said Sgt. DeeJay Norby, a crew chief who was also involved in the action at Gardez. "He didn't get down or anything afterward; he went right back to business doing his job. It's really awesome getting to fly with a great group of pilots and crew chiefs."

This was not the first award that Harris received during the deployment; he was also presented with the Air Medal with Valor device.

In his short address, Harris thanked his flight crew and the crew of the Chinook that performed the rescue operation. "I'm so lucky to serve with so many great heroes," said Harris. "Without them, the outcome might not have been so good."

He also gave a heartfelt thank you to his father, whose life and service set the example for him. "Every time people thank us for our service, I tell them to thank a Vietnam vet; so dad I want to thank you today."

Flight 93 Blogburst: 27 Nov 08

Below you will find this week's blogburst regarding the argument about the Memorial to be built in Pennsylvania. What is the main issue? The people who designed the Memorial insist on not only including the nuts that caused the crash, but to make it as a symbol of the largest mosque heading towards Mecca (taking a flight map, not straight from point A to point B. Those are two different points). Please read this and if you agree, won't you consider joining us in trying to stop this? Thank you.

No, the Mecca-orientation of the Crescent of Embrace is NOT a product of the landform.

Defenders of the Flight 93 memorial repeatedly insist that the Mecca orientation of the giant crescent HAS to be a coincidence. It is completely determined, they insist, by the landform, the path of Flight 93, and the impact point, leaving no room for intent to enter.

Of course it is crazy to think that, so long as it is just an unfortunate coincidence, there is nothing wrong with planting a giant Mecca-oriented crescent (the central feature of a mosque) on the graves of our murdered heroes. About as crazy, actually, as thinking that the Mecca-orientation of the giant crescent could really be a coincidence. First architect Paul Murdoch just innocently comes up with a half mile wide Islamic-shaped crescent to honor the victims of Islamic terrorism, then he innocently places the Sacred Ground Plaza between the tips of the giant crescent, in the position of the star on an Islamic crescent and star flag, then he innocently just happens to point this entire crescent-and-star-flag configuration at Mecca (and on and on and on).

When the nation saw the second airliner hit the Trade Towers, everyone immediately knew that the first impact was no accident. The more airplanes that Paul Murdoch flies into the Flight 93 memorial, the more the Memorial Project thinks it HAS to be an accident. It's just TOO OUTLANDISH to think that an Islamic enemy could attack us out of the blue and unaware in such a henious way. What precedent is there for thinking that such a thing could even be possible? (Knock, knock, knock.) So the more evidence they are confronted with, the more impossible it seems and the more they insist that Murdoch HAS to be innocent.

Okay. So they are willfully blind. Even so, they still need excuses to hang onto their willful blindness, and part of Murdoch's evil genius is to supply these excuses. That is where this trope about the crescent design being dictated by the landscape comes from. It comes from Murdoch, and is actually one of his most brilliant deceptions.

Murdoch's PRELIMINARY DESIGN actually can be seen as dictated by the landform, the flight-path, and the point of impact

Before any designs were submitted, the Memorial Project gave all the design contestants a site organization map that labeled the "the ridgeline", "the bowl", "the crash site", and "the flight path". Architect Paul Murdoch claims that all he did was combine these elements by having the flight path symbolically "break" the circular bowl shape, creating the giant Crescent of Embrace design. If you start a crescent at the point where the flight path crosses the ridgeline, and follow the rim of "the bowl" around the ridgeline to create a crescent that "embraces" the Sacred Ground where Flight 93 crashed, then you get the Crescent of Embrace design. Since this procedure uniquely determines the orientation of the crescent, there is no room for the orientation to be determined by anyone's intent. If it faces Mecca, it HAS to be a coincidence.

This argument actually works, but only when applied to Paul Murdoch's ORIGINAL Crescent of Embrace design, which did NOT point to Mecca. Take a look:

Site features and preliminary crescent design, small

Click for larger image.

The site organization map (left), shows "the bowl" bordered by "the ridge" along with the flight path and the crash site. Murdoch's preliminary Crescent of Embrace design (right), uses the point where the flight path crosses the ridge/bowl as the end point for a crescent that has the Sacred Ground centered between its crescent tips. Resulting orientation: 11.1°clockwise from north, which is 44.1° north of Mecca.

The explanatory notes in the preliminary design are perfectly accurate when they describe the crescent as focused on the Sacred Ground:
A curving arc of maple trees along a walkway unites the ridge and forms an edge to the bowl, with a focus on the Sacred Ground.
It is also correct to say that this crescent and its orientation are uniquely determined (to within 5° or so) by the landform, the flight path and the crash site. If the crescent arc were extended much further then it would no longer point to the Sacred Ground. (The amount of curve between the end points of the crescent does not matter. Murdoch established the curve of his original crescent by smoothing the curved shape of the ridge line.)

If this crescent is uniquely determined by the combination of landform, flight path and crash site, then the final Crescent of Embrace design, rotated 42.3° further to the east, obviously CANNOT be determined by these factors. By extending the crescent in his final design to match the full Islamic crescent shape (covering about 2/3rds of a circle of arc), Murdoch created a crescent that no longer points to the Sacred Ground:

The bisector of the crescent in Murdoch's final Crescent of Embrace design points approximately 1.8° north of Mecca (marked "qibla"). Notice that the bisector of this Mecca-oriented crescent does not even touch the Sacred Ground, but crosses through the upper portion of the Sacred Ground Plaza that sits up the flight path from the Sacred Ground.

While the crescent no longer points to the Sacred Ground, Murdoch still PRETENDS that it does. Asked last summer about the orientation of the crescent, Project Superintendent Joanne Hanley and architect Paul Murdoch both claimed that it points to the Sacred Ground:
Further, [Hanley] added, it is still unclear exactly where on the landscape the memorial will even be situated. It could move as much as 200 yards, she said, discounting the idea that it faces Mecca.

"The only thing that orients the memorial is the crash site," she said.

Mr. Murdoch reinforced that idea.

"It's oriented toward the Sacred Ground," he said. "It just couldn't be clearer."
Hanley may be honestly duped, but Murdoch knows full well that the crescent does not point to the Sacred Ground. Such an orientation would ruin his mosque design, not just because a Sacred Ground oriented crescent would no longer point to Mecca, but also because it would place the graves of the infidels in the location of the star on an Islamic flag, leaving them inside the symbolic Islamic heavens. Blasphemy!

Murdoch has a very different symbolism in mind for the star on his giant crescent and star flag. In the top third of the Sacred Ground Plaza, centered on the bisector of the giant crescent in the exact position of the star on an Islamic flag, sits a separate upper section of [the] Memorial Wall inscribed with the 9/11 date. The date goes to the star on the Islamic flag. The date goes to the terrorists.

The duping of David Beamer

At this August's public meeting of the Memorial Project, David Beamer (father of Flight 93 hero Todd Beamer) came out to counter Tom Burnett Sr.'s protests against the crescent design.

Mr. Beamer declared that he had performed several months of due diligence investigating the warnings about the crescent design, by which he presumably meant that he had checked at least a few of our factual claims like the Mecca orientation of the giant crescent (now called a broken circle), but instead of reporting the results of his fact-checking, Mr. Beamer changed the subject. He did not say a single word about the accuracy of any of our claims, [he] only reported how he had met with architect Paul Murdoch and was satisfied that Murdoch's design properly honors his son and the other murdered heroes of Flight 93.

If he actually did any fact checking, then he is fully aware that the giant crescent DOES point within 2° of Mecca , in which case there is only one plausible explanation for Beamer declaring the design innocent. Murdoch must have convinced him that the crescent orientation is determined by the landform, the flight path and the crash site, so that its orientation on Mecca HAS to be coincidence.

If Mr. Beamer had bothered to talk to the person who has been warning of an enemy plot, then Alec Rawls would have explained to him that no, these physical facts about the crash site do NOT yield a Mecca-oriented crescent. They yield a crescent that points 44° north of Mecca. It is a very strange concept of due diligence to trust the assurances of the who is an enemy operative while refusing to talk to the person who is issuing warnings

Very strange, too, to think that just because one is convinced that the Mecca orientation of the crescent is a coincidence that somehow makes it okay to deny the Mecca orientation when speaking to the press and the public as several Project spokesmen have now done. The fact that Mr. Beamer and Hanley and other Project Partners have been duped be Murdoch"s explanations would be of little consequence if they just let the public know what they know so the American people can decide for themselves whether the fact that it might be a coincidence makes it okay to plant the world's largest Mecca-direction indicator on the Flight 93 crash site.

Obviously the answer would be "NO!", and this nightmare would be over. It is the lying that is the problem. Hanley et. al. can be a bunch of dupes if they want, but they have no right to deceive the public about what they know.

Africa: The Unnoticed Threat

What about the Somalian pirates? Ah, yes. Now you look, but what do you really know? For example, did you know that the middle east has been using sub-saharan Africa as a gateway to Mexico so they can enter the United States?

Yes, this is happening more and more often. Especially since our media refuses to educate the masses that are too stupid to handle the truth...or is it that they are just too lazy to track it down? Hmm, I'll leave that to you to decide. On with the article.

I like to read Douglas Farah's site, because he keeps his eyes, ears, and whatever body part is available to the ground when it comes to Africa. He is a counter-terrorism expert, and he has authored the book, "BLOOD FROM STONES", the secret financial network of terror.

This is what attracted my eye today:
Sub-Saharan Africa Rises for the Wrong Reasons.
By Douglas Farah

While the Somali piracy crisis has galvanized world opinion, it is not the only area of Sub-Saharan Africa that is attracting counter-terrorism attention.

The growing ties between criminal and terrorist groups (often one and the same when it comes to Hezbollah's broad activity in Western and Central Africa) has been noted. The Congress authorized the creation of the new Africa Command (Africom) largely because of the terrorist threat in the region.

But what is the real threat? Again I return to the pipeline metaphor, and Africa is more and more frequently a important part of that pipeline structure.

Two cases illustrate this clearly. The first, an illegal alien smuggling ring running from Ghana through Central America to the United States was ideally positioned to carry anyone, including terrorists, across multiple borders.

The ring was run by a 26-year-old named Mohammed Kamel Ibrahim, living in Mexico and using the moniker "Silk the Shocker." For $5,000 he offered to have his clients met by corrupt Mexican officials and sent on to the United States.

What is astonishing is the number of countries through which this network moved people. Like water running downhill they simply took the path of least resistance at any given moment. My full blog is here.
If you continue reading this article, you will find there are several ways in which corrupt governments - including the Mexican government - are aiding in the spread of jihadism. This is one of the very important reasons why we must remain ever vigilant on the issue of gaining control of and keeping it of our borders.

Not only our borders by land but by that of sea. Yes, they are planning something which will occur because someone got into America through the sea. We must press our government to gain control of our harbors. Also, they must give the Coast Guard proper training and equipment to face our enemy head-on. We are all counting on them as well, and it's about time we showed it.

Happy Thanksgiving!
