Big DC Fundraiser Cancelled

Cancel as well the urgent action alert that was going to be the subject of today’s blogburst post. The Memorial Project has just abandoned the "gala" tribute and fundraiser they were planning for almost a year. The event was to be held in Washington DC on September 11th, and yes, they actually called it a “gala,” until Flight 93 family members said NO WAY.

Last month's announcement of the event promised:
An impressive Honorary Host Committee has been assembled consisting of over 200 members of Congress and the leadership of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Special state delegations from Pennsylvania and California are also being organized for the event.
Assembled where? In the imaginations of Memorial Project personnel? If there really were 200 Congressmen on board, including the leadership of both parties, what could possibly prompt cancellation?

Has word gotten out that the memorial is actually a terrorist memorial mosque?

Fuggedaboudit. We are a long ways from Congress being alert to the facts. It is possible, however, that there is a growing awareness in Congress that the Flight 93 families are divided over the crescent design (now called a broken circle). Thank Tom Burnett Sr., whose efforts to stop the desecration of his son's grave drew national television coverage in May, and extensive Pittsburgh coverage this month:

Tom Burnett, Somerset PA, 8-2-08

Tom Sr. on Pittsburgh 's KPXI channel 6, August 4th. (Click for video.)

Us critics know well the difficulty of going up against Flight 93 family members. Who would have imagined that conservative stalwarts like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity would remain silent about the planting of a giant Mecca-oriented crescent on the Flight 93 crash site? But all it takes is some family members on the other side and nobody wants to get involved.

Maybe Tom's pleas for help are injecting the same paralysis into would-be supporters of the crescent design. If both sides are paralyzed, that is a step in the right direction, but it is nowhere near enough. Architect Paul Murdoch is still on track to stab his terrorist memorial mosque into the heartland of America. (That is the significance of a crescent that Muslims face into to face Mecca: it is the central feature around which every mosque is built.)

How big does the memorial controversy have to get before a few of these paralyzed big-wigs on either side decide to simply check the facts? All congressmen have interns they can assign to fact-check the Mecca orientation of the giant crescent (five minutes), the Islamic crescent soaring in the sky above the symbolic lives of the 40 heroes (five seconds), the 44 glass blocks on the flight path (just open up the design drawings and count).

Michelle Malkin, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity all have interns too. If these folks are skeptical, they ought to at least want to expose our claims about these features as a fraud, so that the controversy can be put to rest. If they find that our claims are accurate, all we ask is that they join the call for a proper investigation.

Come on movers and shakers. Paralysis is not enough. Stand paralyzed as Paul Murdoch pilots a re-hijacked Flight 93 to its mark, and the heroism of Flight 93 will be well and truly betrayed.

Please vote: Keep 'In God We Trust' or Not

Once again the atheists are it. Not all of them because those with half a brain know better than to allow the boogie man to sneak up on them, but those twits who have nothing better to do than keep taking Christians, Jews, and Muslims to court at the drop a hat when they hear a religious word spoken want to test the waters to see if it is yet time to press the removal of our national motto on our money, In God We Trust. It is also in our national Athem, so I'd like to see how they square that!

Anyway, go vote and make your voice heard. (Here is the link to the actual article: Atheist challenges 'In God We Trust'.) Maybe they'll realize, one of these days, that WE HAVE RIGHTS, TOO! If not? We'll just keep fighting back, of course. ;)

The Fog(s) Of A Coming War?

I do not understand what is going on inside of my head, but it appears (factually) that I've forgotten my responsibility to have a post ready again. It is not for the lack of trying. I have been paying very close attention to the situations in Georgia/USSR relations (ha) and the Chinese arresting journalists, protesters, and just about anyone they don't like...which is everyone.

This cease-fire agreement between Georgia and the Soviets, brokered by France's president and Condi Rice is a joke. All the Soviets have to do is move back to the two cities they first invaded inside Georgia? That's bunk.

If we do not confront the Soviets now on our terms, we will confront them later on their terms. This would include much blood and God only knows how many lives. If you do not stop an idealogue bully before they get started and they sense your unwillingness to do anything, we could end up in another world war.

I've heard people say, "The Military is stretched too thin." Oh? We have 300,000,000+ people living here, and we're stretched too thin? Let me just throw this out there. If worse comes to worse, I don't want to hear any whining from the usual suspects. I want them to line up for duty and get off the freakin' dole, or get out of America.

Yeah, I said it. What are you going to about it? This is my country, which I love, we're talking about. You don't appreciate freedom? You've never lost it. You don't appreciate liberty? You've never known its sweetness, nor appreciated it. That's right. When it comes down to saving our country against ALL enemies foreign AND domestic, it is also the duty of the sovereign individuals of our great country to pony up.

Why am I so pessimistic and dire about the situation with the USSR? (Before you ask, it is my freedom of speech to call them what they are.) Do you remember WWI and WWII? These could have been prevented. Hitler gave us many chances to stop his sorry butt. What did we do? We gave him the Olympics.

Speaking of China, why in the world did President Bush stay there when Georgia was invaded? Even more, why did he go in the first place? Does he not realize that China is also a threat to us? Does anyone remember the Cox Report? Never heard of it? It was considered Classified until May 1999, and here is the Final Report. Educate yourselves, just like I need to constantly.

Aside from the Chinese theft of our nuclear secrets, they also care not one wit towards their people. Why should we care about this? We have come to learn that if a country does not care a wit how they treat their own people, you can predetermine that they care even less how they will treat any prisoners of war. It's laughable the way people cackle at the treatment we use toward enemy combatants AS DEFINED IN THE GENEVA CONVENTION. We go too far and above what is called for as far as fairness goes. IMHO.

Another reason I hate China. Tiananmen Square. 'Nuf said.

But then again, that's just my opinion...

May you walk with the LORD always, and when you cannot take another step, may He carry you the rest of the way until you can walk along side Him again.

An American Carol

You will never believe what Hollywood has come up with next. This new film named, 'An American Carol', is a Conservatives rebuttal to Michael Moore's debasing of America. (Hat tip: Angel of Woman Honor Thyself.)

Finally, the Conservatives in Hollywood got fed-up with hiding, and now they are coming out of the woodworks. Well, some more slowly than others, but they are coming out. They are tired of listening to the whining and hatred for our beloved country...no matter who is in White House.

This movie is making its debut October 3, 2008, and its cast is a wide variety of people you may not have thought of as Conservatives...until after you see this movie. Here is a preview:

Iraqi, American city councils share ideas on local government

by J.C. Corcoran
66th Air Base Wing Public Affairs

HANSCOM AFB, Mass. (Aug. 12, 2008) — The Hanscom Video Teleconference Center has been the site of many different types of meetings over the years, from discussions between Electronic Systems Center officials and others within the Air Force to holiday greetings between deployed members and their loved ones. But on Aug. 10, the Hanscom VTC became the site of a unique civics lesson between members of the New Bedford, Mass., City Council and about 30 city and town officials from various districts in Iraq.

Members of the New Bedford, Mass. City Council hold a mock city council meeting via video teleconference at Hanscom Aug. 10 for about 30 city and town officials from various districts in Iraq. The idea to hold a "mock" city council meeting came from a State Department official who is a New Bedford resident currently working in Iraq. The purpose of the VTC was to demonstrate for the Iraqi officials some of the parliamentary, legislative and executive communication procedures applied by American town governments.

"This was a great experience for all of the New Bedford city council members who participated," said City Council President Jane Gonsalves. "The experience reinforced our commitment to our work for the citizens of New Bedford, because we now have seen firsthand that what we do does make a difference and how much we take for granted in America."

With a pre-planned agenda, utilizing seven separate examples of past city issues, the nine members of the 11 member New Bedford City Council arrived at Hanscom around 7:15 a.m. prepared to meet their counterparts in Iraq. After introducing her fellow council members, Ms. Gonsalves gave a brief outline of what was to take place and then gaveled the "meeting" to order. Joining Ms. Gonsalves for the early morning meeting were councilors David Alves, Brian Gomes, Denis Lawrence Jr., Linda Morad, Steven Martins, Kathy Dehner and Bruce Duarte Jr.

For an hour the New Bedford council members brought to the floor the issues and, following standard parliamentary procedures, held floor discussions, entered motions and voted on each resolution just as they would in an actual council meeting. Because of time restraints associated with use of the VTC and the need for Iraqi officials to translate the proceedings, real in-depth debate on the motions at hand were shortened, but it was evident from the follow up questions that the Iraqi officials were paying close attention.

Following the mock meeting, Iraqi officials were then given the opportunity, through their interpreter, to speak directly to the council members and to ask questions. The questions covered a wide variety of areas that included the relationship between a mayor and the city council, how sub-committee's work, the budget process, and whether the councilors got paid for their civic work.

The two-and-a-half hour video teleconference ended with an invitation from the Iraqi representatives to the New Bedford City Council to visit Iraq and see firsthand how their local governments operate. Reciprocating, a similar invitation was extended to the Iraqi delegation.

"I believe that the Iraqi officials benefited from seeing how we get our work done," said Ms. Gonsalves. "Perhaps our discussion will spark some ideas amongst the Iraqi officials for changes to their meeting procedures. We feel honored that we were given the opportunity to share some of our procedures with our colleagues in Iraq."

OMG, It's Beautiful and It Works!

Many of you may know that when you have to call a plumber, this is a time of distress. We had a major pipe break and were without water for a whole week. The job these guys did is remarkable! They even cleaned up after themselves. Not only did they come back and replaster the holes they created to get to the pipes to replace them all, but they did it so quickly! Well, quickly according to me.

The first day they did the re-piping. The toilet is working! Yippee! The second day they came back to make sure every hole they made was secured, plastered, and finished. They are coming back today to put the finish finishing on the job. I have to find out what the name of this company is so I can share it with you.

Honestly, I have never had a plumber that cleaned up after himself. This was a group of about eight young men did a fantastic job, and I recommend them. That is why I want to get the name of their company. I would like to promote them.

They have no idea that I am doing this, therefore I am not getting paid for this recommendation. I am just thrilled with their work.

To all business out there: Do a good job, get a good write up. Treat me poorly, as MSN found out, and I will rack you over the coals! This is my PSA warning. lol.

I will put the name of the company as an update, so stay tuned. I know we all have needed a plumber at least once in our lives and if you live in Southern California, you want to call these people. Have a great day!

Stop the ACLU Blogburst 15 Aug 08

This blogburst is courtesy of Stop the ACLU: Are Military Tribunals Fair?

After years of litigation a verdict was finally reached for Salim Hamdan, Osama Bin Laden's driver and detainee accused of war crimes. While cleared of conspiracy he was convicted on multiple counts of material support for terrorism. Legal groups like the ACLU and the Center for Constitutional Rights quickly criticized the ruling. Certain media elements were not far behind. Much of the criticism was understandable, and much was distorted through the lens of bias. Most of the criticism ended up being deflated after a surprisingly lenient sentence of five and a half years, including five years and a month already served. This sentence fell short of the thirty years to life the prosecutors wanted. Even one of Salim's defense attorneys admitted the verdict was fair and just. However, a fair outcome doesn't necessarily reflect a fair process. So, are the military tribunals for the Guantanamo detainees fair? To answer this question we must critically look at both sides of the argument, the details of the process itself, and understand how we arrived at this point.

When war has been declared the United States has made use of military tribunals to try captured enemies outside the scope of conventional civil and criminal matters, historically providing a trial for combatants acting in violation to the Rules of War. The Geneva Conventions established what most countries have adopted as the international standard regarding such rules.

The perception pushed by some is that combatants held at Guantanamo deserve protection under the provisions provided by the Geneva Convention. Others argued that the essence of the Convention is the distinction between lawful combatants and civilians and that terrorists violate this by being non-uniformed, negating this distinction and endangering innocent civilians. This argument applies that Prisoner of War status and the rights that come with that should not extend to those that violate its rules. The Supreme Court settled this argument in 2006 in favor of extending many of these rights to captured combatants held at Guantanamo. This decision was Hamdan vs. Rumsfeld which extended certain rights to the detainees and placed limits on the authority of the executive branch. This decision was the catalyst for Congress to pass the Military Commissions Act of 2006 authorizing the establishment of military commissions within the parameters set by the Supreme Court.

The 5-4 ruling in Boumediene vs. Bush threw another wrench into the efforts to prosecute prisoners at Guantanamo by determining that habeas corpus rights extend to these prisoners and that the Military Commissions Act unconstitutionally suspended those rights. Defense lawyers used this ruling in an attempt to delay the military trial of Salim Hamdan, but were unsuccessful in their argument that the procedures violated certain constitutional rights. District Judge James Robertson ruled against delaying the trial on the grounds that these arguments could be raised on appeal after the completion of the trial. How this ruling's precedent will affect future proceedings against Guantanamo detainees is yet to be seen.

Determining whether the military commission process is fair requires looking at several factors. Hamdan's trial served as a test case for the government prosecutors and the detainee defense lawyers. Behind Hamdan there are around 80 other Guantanamo detainees, including five alleged September 11th plotters, the Pentagon intends to try before the commissions. It is important to observe Hamdan's case to determine the probability of fairness in future military commissions because of the precedents it has set.

Most of the key criticisms in Hamdan's case were addressed. The concern that evidence obtained through coercive interrogation would be used was alleviated when the judge excluded statements obtained from Hamdan prior to his arrival at Guantanamo. Concerns remained over allowed statements obtained after his arrival due to defense allegations they were obtained through abusive procedures. However, no convincing evidence was presented to prove these allegations. Defense attorneys were also given adequate opportunity and access to challenge secret evidence. Many other points exist in favor of the fairness in this trial including the fact that Hamdan's conviction is automatically appealed to a military appellate court. That court can reduce, but cannot increase, his sentence. Hamdan can then appeal to U.S. civilian courts as well. However, many legal concerns remain such as the question of whether his prosecution violated the Constitution's prohibition of ex post facto laws. Concerns addressed in Hamdan's case do not guarantee future trials will be addressed similarly, but recognized respect of precedent makes it probable.

In my opinion, Salim Hamdan received a fair trial and a lenient but just sentencing. The system in place for future military trials is still not perfect, but provides more protections and rights for captured enemy combatants than ever provided in history. Certain elements definitely need to be addressed while others are yet to be determined. The legal journey to refine the process has only begun.

Marines target oil smugglers, protect citizens

by Cpl. Ryan L. Tomlinson
Regimental Combat Team 5

UM AL WAZZ, Iraq (Aug. 6, 2008) – Western al-Anbar province was one of the most dangerous areas in Iraq in recent years, and Marine units operating there have encountered threats ranging from improvised explosive devices to small-arms firefights.

Delta Company, 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance, 2nd LAR Bn., Regimental Combat Team 5 has come across a different threat, however: oil smuggling.

Marine scouts prepare to search an old Iraqi school during a patrol through Um Al Wazz, Iraq, on Aug. 2. Marines visited the towns of Um Al Wazz and Midham to search the area and question the citizens about suspicious activity and knowledge of oil smuggling that funds and supports the insurgency.“It’s been passed down from the regiment that there is a threat of insurgents utilizing oil smuggling to transport and fund their operations,” said Capt. Joseph C. Maher, 28, company commander of Delta Co. and an Omaha, Neb., native. “These towns are like home ground for smuggling, and we’re here to ensure it stops.”

The company visited the towns of Um Al Wazz and Midham to search the area and question the citizens for any suspicious activity or knowledge of smuggling. The Marines cordoned off the whole area, ensuring a thorough search.

“Most people in Iraq want to live their lives in a safe and secure environment, and if the enemy elements are invading the town, the [residents] are in danger,” said Staff Sgt. Justin M. Cuomo, a scout squad leader with Delta Co. “Stopping them prevents them from harming an isolated village.”

During the operation, the Marines detained one suspected smuggler and more than four trucks, putting a damper on their operations and profits. The mission lasted about two days, consisting of clearing two towns and gathering knowledge.

“When we put a dent in the oil smuggling and insurgency operations, we thereby lay a dent in al-Qaida of Iraq,” said Lance Cpl. Scott J. A. Baish, 23, a Delta Co. scout from Hagerstown, Md. “Denying al-Qaida access to the town will take away the opposition of the city’s government and make it more effective.”

The Marines will continue these operations with visits to other towns around the area of western al-Anbar province. Delta Co. is determined to find all threats, and say they won’t rest until they are neutralized.

“It’s a great thing to be on the ground actively pursuing criminals, taking away the safe havens from these people,” said Cuomo, 33, from Woodbridge, Va. “We’re here to intimidate those who intimidate others and help innocent people live their lives safely.”

Let’s Stop Politicizing Our Troops

I’ve been doing some soul-searching as of late, and I’ve come to the conclusion that we are never going to move forward as long as we allow the politicians and ourselves to politicize our Troops. They come from ever State, every religion, every background, every ethnicity, etc. It is not fair to lump them all into one box and only see them as one constituency.

I would really like to have discussions about the best way to deal with situations that are right in front of us. I would also like to discuss those areas of concern, which are not right in front of us. Say perhaps, China, which may become important. I would like to be able to speak with everyone on the political spectrum as though we were all considering what is in the best interest for America. That includes our Troops, in my humble opinion.

Why is this important? It is important because we all need to pull together during a time of great disruption and war. It seems as though the only people’s lives that have been affected during this war we are in trying to defeat the jihadis is the Troops and their families.

Yes, there are many who support the Troops and even some who may suffer a tiny pinch in their wallets doing for them what they can as far sending care packages, etc. But is that really feeling the pinch? The stress? The pressure? The loneliness? The fear? The sense of satisfaction after a successful mission well done? Do we even know how they have built over 3000 schools and hospitals?

Do they know how many al Qaida have been removed from the battlefield, never to return? Do they care anymore? Does anyone remember there is still an ongoing war that we did NOT start? No, half the country does not, because it has become political.

Once any topic becomes political, most Americans prefer to tune out of the conversation. This is not good for America or her interests. This is why I recommend, as hard as it may be, that we return to a non-political, non-partisan site at the Talon. I would like it to be a place where people may come to find news without all the political stuff they’re tired of hearing.

We do want them to care. We do want them to be informed. We do want them to get involved. Therefore we must try our best not to offend them and insult their intelligence. I know I do not like it when the Left does it to me, and it just isn’t right.

If someone calls us ‘right-winged whack jobs’, we tune out automatically. At least I do, because I know whatever comes next is biased, untrue, tainted, and on and on. How do we think this effects our readers? At least the other half? If we really want them to understand and have a dialogue with us, we must first show them respect. Why? Because they are also Americans. Isn’t that enough reason?

Off Topic: Mind you, I’ve been offline for approximately 30 hours now, and you won’t know this until way after this is due. Apparently my ISP is having a problem, and they won’t be able to send someone to my home until August 13! Oh my God, I’m going to lose my mind! ;)

Founders' Daily Quote: 13 Aug 08

"Taxes should be continued by annual or biennial reeactments, because a constant hold, by the nation, of the strings of the public purse is a salutary restraint from which an honest government ought not wish, nor a corrupt one to be permitted, to be free."

--Thomas Jefferson (letter to John Wayles Eppes, 24 June 1813); Reference: The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Library of Congress, American Memory Collection.

Tom, here we go again. I agree with most heartily, but alas, they do not abide your warnings. I am afraid it has corrupted them, and in that, corrupted the masses. They should feel shame, but they have permitted shame to escape the public venue. What shall we do? Revolt?

Memorial Project Superintendent lies about receiving threats

Blogburst logo, petition
Joanne Hanley, superintendent of the Flight 93 Memorial Project, cannot answer the damning facts about the crescent design (now called a broken circle), so she has decided to slander the people who are pointing them out. In a speech at the Memorial Project's August 2nd meeting, she cited a list of "threats" she had received from critics, saying for instance that her "career would be destroyed."

In defense of Superintendent Hanley, Flight 93 family member Calvin Wilson expressed his disgust at the violent threats and charged that critics were acting like the terrorists themselves. Three Pennsylvania newspapers covered Hanley's claims to have been threatened, one editorialized against the uncivilized critics, and a Memorial Project press release highlighted Wilson's outraged response to the supposed threats.

It is all a lie. Here is the Letter to the Editor that Alec Rawls just sent to the duped Pennsylvania newspapers, exposing Superintendent Hanley's deception:

A warning is not a threat. A warning is to protect against a threat.

As the lead organizer of the movement to stop the crescent design, I can tell you who made the statements that Superintendent Hanley was complaining about. I recognized every one of the phrases she cited as coming from myself. It is ME who Joanne Hanley is accusing of making threats, an accusation that is not just false, but grotesquely dishonest.

What Joanne Hanley is casting as threats were WARNINGS, trying to alert her to the threat posed by architect Paul Murdoch and his scheme to plant a giant Mecca-oriented crescent on the Flight 93 crash site. This is one of Superintendent Hanley’s excuses for refusing to heed warnings about the crescent design. She pretends that warnings are threats and hence SHOULD NOT be listened to.

When I couldn’t get Hanley to look to the facts for the country’s sake, I tried to appeal to her instinct for self-preservation, warning her of the personal consequences of Murdoch’s attempt to stab a terrorist memorial mosque into the heartland of America . (That is the meaning of a crescent that Muslims face into to face Mecca : it is the central feature of a mosque.)

As I put it in a March 2006 email to both Superintendent Hanley and Project Manager Jeff Reinbold:
I have been trying to save your lives and your careers for six months. It is not too late for you. You can still do your jobs and investigate the basic facts I have warned you about, like the Mecca-orientation of Murdoch's original Crescent of embrace, and the continued presence of Murdoch's original crescent in the redesign.
Shortly after this email, Joanne Hanley told me why she was not concerned about the almost-exact Mecca orientation of the giant crescent. In a conference call with Jeff Reinbold, she told me that: “It isn’t exact. That’s one we talked about. It has to be exact.” (The giant crescent points 1.8° north of Mecca , ± .1°.)

If she had admitted to the public what she was admitting in private—that the giant crescent does indeed point almost exactly to Mecca —it would have been okay. The people of Pennsylvania would be able to decide for themselves whether a giant Mecca-oriented crescent makes an acceptable memorial to the victims of Islamic terrorism, so long as it does not point EXACTLY at Mecca . Instead, the Memorial Project decided instead to deceive the public, sending an academic fraud from the University of Texas to assure the press that there is no such thing as the direction to Mecca:
Daniel Griffith, a geospatial information sciences professor at the University of Texas at Dallas, said anything can point toward Mecca, because the earth is round. [Post Gazette, “Flight 93 memorial draws a new round of criticism,” August 18, 2007.]
Just as I warned Superintendent Hanley that her career was in jeopardy, I also warned Dr. Griffith that his career would be destroyed if he did not correct this blatant disinformation. Like Hanley, Griffith too interpreted my warning as a threat, as if it would be ME who was responsible for the harm to his reputation, when he was covering up evidence of an enemy plot by lying about basic geometry, pretending that there is no direction between two points on planet earth.

In spite of the Memorial Project’s active cover-up of Murdoch’s plot, I continued to treat Superintendent Hanley as what she is: a fellow countryman aboard a hijacked airplane who is in need of rescue. As I put it in another email to Superintendent Hanley last November:
I don’t want you to be hurt here. There is only one bad guy in this story: Paul Murdoch. I want to help everyone else get off of this hijacked airplane. … I am not your enemy. I am your friend. I am the one who has been trying to save you, for two damned years, and I still am, despite your persistent public slanders against me.
Is it even POSSIBLE to be clearer? A warning is not a threat. A warning is to protect someone from a threat, as my communications spelled out over and over. For Joanne Hanley to pretend that these warnings about the threat she is facing were threats in themselves is deliberate dishonesty. For her to tell Calvin Wilson that these attempts to protect her from Murdoch’s plot were violent threats against her, prompting Wilson to use his status as a family member to attack critics on this dishonest basis, is even worse.

Joanne Hanley is not the only person I am warning. Every Pennsylvanian is aboard this hijacked airplane. How can the newspapers of Pennsylvania let stand a fraudulent claim that there is no such thing as the direction to Mecca ? How can the educated people of Pennsylvania , the math teachers, the college students, the politicians, let such a fraud stand, when every one of you knows that Muslims face Mecca for prayer?

If Pennsylvanians continue to be willfully blind to easily verifiable evidence of an enemy plot in your own back yard, history will not be kind to you.

Morality requires trust in truth

Imagine if one of the passengers on Flight 93 was told that if they did not retake the airplane, they would be killed when the terrorists flew the airplane into a building. If the passenger was Joanne Hanley, she would say: "Stop threatening me!"

Any excuse to avoid the truth, no matter how nonsensical or even suicidal. A photo-negative of the fighting spirit of Flight 93.

Asked by Pilate to account for himself, Jesus answered: “To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth.” (Jn. 18:37.) Jesus wasn’t a witness for the truth only sometimes, or only about matters of salvation. He proceeded from the factual truth of every situation that crossed his path, and called upon the rest of us to similarly trust in truth.

Secular moral reason demands the same thing. Anyone who thinks that it can somehow be right or in their interest to avoid or suppress the truth will through that avoidance of the truth become divorced from reality, with the inevitable effect that their ideas about what is right or in their interest can only be wrong. This is the irrationality of the Memorial Project. They proceed on the assumption that the crescent design is innocent, while self-consciously covering up evidence that it is not.

This malfeasance puts the rest of our society to the test. All of the people who we pay to check and report the facts: government, academia and the media, are all desperately trying to suppress the truth. That leaves it up to the rest of us to witness and communicate the truth about Murdoch's plot. (Some basic facts, and how to verify them for yourself, posted here.)

Georgian troops return to troubled homeland

by John J. Kruzel
American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON (Aug. 12, 2008) – The United States has redeployed some 2,000 Georgian troops from Iraq to their home country, where a contingent of fewer than 100 American military personnel remain, a Defense Department spokesman said Tuesday [12 Aug 08].

Pentagon Spokesman Bryan Whitman said the United States, meanwhile, is prepared to provide humanitarian aid to Georgia, where clashes with Russia broke out last week in the breakaway region of South Ossetia in the former Soviet republic and escalated over [the] following days. No humanitarian missions currently are under way, he added.

A soldier from the 13th Georgian Army Battalion provides security during a joint clearing operation with Iraqi troops in Ali Shaheen village, Iraq, last March.American C-17s began shuttling the brigade of Georgian forces Aug. 10 and completed the redeployment yesterday, Whitman said. The U.S.-provided transport adhered to an agreement that U.S. and Georgian government officials arranged before Russian tanks and troops crossed Georgia’s border on Aug. 8.

“We are fulfilling our agreement with the Georgian government that in an emergency we would assist them in redeploying their troops,” Whitman said. “We are honoring that commitment, and we are following through with that.” A contingent of fewer than 100 U.S. military personnel remains in Georgia, the Pentagon spokesman told reporters. Some American personnel left Monday, but the forces currently there are safe and accounted for, he added. “They are not involved in the conflict,” he said, “but they are remaining there for now.”

MSN Customer Service

So you say you would like to help people by working at customer service? May I recommend you do not apply for a job at MSN? I have tried since Saturday to ‘fix’ my problem so I could once again get online and place my articles on my sites.

Allow me to walk through their customer service. The first call was pretty good. I learned that I had not paid for the last two months. See, when I lost my card, my card company did carry over MSN. So they asked me for my new information. I started to give it to them, and I realized I could not find my card again.

I am the type of person who puts things away where they belong. If it isn’t there, I cannot find it. It doesn’t matter if it is right next to where I’m looking, I still cannot find it. This may be due the strokes that I’ve had. I created a strategy for me to remember those things that I do not use everyday. I would put them in one place, and they would stay there. When I am through using them, I return them to that one place. Easy, right? HA! lol

Anyway, I called my card company to report it, and they were going to send me another one. In the meantime, I found it. I called my card company to tell them, and they told me I was given the same number! I was astonished. They are supposed to change it in case someone else gets their hands on it. Oh well. I was okay with it...this time.

Then I called MSN again. After going through all the stuff you have to go through, they sent me to a specialist in billing. Why wouldn’t they accept my new card? They changed their policy so that both the name on the credit card and the name you put on your profile have to be the same. WHAT THE HAY? NO WAY! They have no right to my personal information, and these people want to get all huffy when the Patriot Act was implemented? Yeah, right.

I swear, they want to know too much information for my comfort zone. I wanted to change ISP’s right then and there. There was only one problem. I don’t use MSN. I have been paying for it since January 2002 as a back up ISP, just in case my IE ran into a problem. Well, my ISP ran into a problem, and MSN was in no way, shape or form going to help. They even had the nerve to tell me I owed them money! I told them to show me where ANY activity was used on my account. They could not, because I did not use it.

It took me 8 phone calls to MSN and I let them know I am a journalist. I also let them know I may lose my job. Did they care? NO. I promised to write an article about this experience, and here it is.

Well, to put this all into a nutshell, they told me all I had to do was go online and change my profile. Um...THAT’S WHY I’M CALLING! I have no internet! I could not sign-in to MSN and IE was out. They are tomorrow. Finally. As soon as I get on the computer, I’m canceling my subscription. I recommend you do the same.

PS. I'm back online now, as if you couldn't tell, and I paid what I owed. Did I keep the MSN? Yeah, until I can find something that will allow me to carry over my same e-mail addresses! Argghhh!

Sheik addresses state of Fallujah

by Sgt. Nathaniel Leblanc
RCT-1 PAO

FALLUJAH, Iraq (Aug. 7, 2008) — A well-known city council member and tribal leader spoke to the citizens of Fallujah during his second State of the City address at the city’s government center Thursday. Sheik Hamid Ahmed Al-Hashim, city council chairman, delivered his speech to the people of Fallujah through the local media. He addressed the progress the city has made in the past year, and focused on various quality of life projects and security improvements.

Sheikh Hamid Ahmed Al-Hashim, city council chairman, and Sa'ad Awad Rashad Al-Dulaimi, city mayor, conduct a question and answer session with local Arab media after the State of the City Address for the Fallujah, Aug. 8, 2008. Hamid delivered his speech to Fallujah citizens addressing the progress the city has made this year, focusing on the quality of life projects and security improvements. The city of Fallujah is rebuilding, Hamid said. “We have a bright future ahead of us. Everyday, improvements are being made.” The city currently has several ambitious projects under way, with each one addressing different aspects of citizens' quality of life, he said.

The Fallujah general hospital, which is scheduled to open soon, will provide quality health care to the Fallujah residents with medical professionals, and necessary medical wards needed to tend to the basic health needs of the populace, Hamid said.

He added that, with the help of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, the city is also developing a major sewer system which will provide the public a more sanitary environment.

To give Fallujah a new “facelift," a park is under construction along the city’s main street, Hamid said. The park will have walking paths and gazebos that will give residents a refreshing atmosphere.

The city is also using its own resources to resolve electricity shortages throughout neighborhoods, installing 34 generators and providing energy to nearby homes. Hamid commented during his address that he would like to see the electricity efforts furthered. “Although 34 generators are good, they are not enough. We would like to double that number in the future.”

Hamid discussed other projects spearheaded by the government of Iraq such as road reconstruction, the Fallujah university and the Saqlawia Bridge. He also spoke about seeing the Iraqi government focus more on agriculture and live-stock production in hopes of boosting Fallujah’s economy and generating more jobs.

The last issue presented during the State of the City Address was security. Hamid assured the citizens that Fallujah is the most secure city in Iraq and expressed his gratitude to all coalition and Fallujah security forces for their excellent work and sacrifices they have made to make it all possible.

Security is only getting better, he said.

Hamid continued, congratulating the Iraqi security forces in capturing three al Qaeda in Iraq members who were responsible for the recent suicide bomber attacks in Fallujah.

After the State of the City Address, Hamid was accompanied with the city mayor, Sa’ad Awad Rashad Al-Dulaimi, and city chief of police, Abdul Karim Munth’ir Ali Al-Jumayli, for a question and answer session with the media.

Karim restated the capture of the three AQI members and promised the people of Fallujah that the city will stay safe. He also assured them that with the combined efforts between coalition and Iraqi security forces such attacks will not happen again.

Sa’ad opened his statements by showing gratitude towards the police and their efforts in the city. He and the Iraqi security forces are working at a high level of coordination, and are soon to open the joint operation center to fight off remaining AQI elements.
